If I'm running a mission with my drones on aggressive and someone slips in and steals loot. Will my drones aggro this person and thus cause me to get pawned??
Thanks

In theory, no, but on occasion they will anyway. Keeping your drones on passive all the time is generally a good idea as they'll act less crazy that way. - - - Dian'h Might - C&Ps resident "internet kleptomaniac" |

They shouldn't, but they inevitably will at some point, so keep them on Passive.

They shouldn't and in my experience they never ever did. When afk mining they never aggroed anyone stealing the loot out of the rats wrecks and neither did they ever aggroed people who did that in missions.
People don't really ninja loot your mission more than once every so many months so I wouldn't put them on passive.

I would keep them on passive not for the risk of concord aggro (though that is reason enough) but because aggressive drones are absolutely stupid and get themselves and you killed. Seriously. They trigger proximity aggro (which gets you killed) and will usually prioritize the targets that are 1-shot spawn triggers. Aggressive drones in PVE get you dead. Seriously, set them for passive and leave them there. There are very very rare situations where aggressive is appropriate, but it's best to be conservative about it.

I've tested this, and used aggressive drones for a long time. They will NEVER attack a thief unless told to explicitly.
Once upon a time there was an exploit that got around this, but it was patched.

Drones are not the issue here amigo, it's you. I regret having to tell you this but your attitude reeks of ignorance and arrogance.
But cheer up dude; there is always a silver beacon around that fifth avenue, if you know what I mean.

Drones will attack whatever is targeting you IF you are targeted while they are deployed in aggressive mode.
If the thief is also a ganker and want's to make you aggro him for pwnage, he targets you, your drones aggro him and u die a horrible melty death. The only thing is that your drones HAVE to be deployed and in aggressive mode PRIO to being targeted for this to happen. If thats the exploit you speak of, it's still in place and not fixed.
always keep drones passive.

Edited by: Louis deGuerre on 01/04/2011 12:34:30 My money is on fixed. I remember trying to see if this exploit was still feasible and I could not make it happen. It requires an aggressive act for the drones to actually attack (targeting itself is not an aggressive act). I have had my drones on aggressive ever since. You want this so your drones keep fighting even if you are jammed. ----- Malevolence. is recruiting. Dive into the world of 0.0 !

Just tested, nope. Have to actually use an offensive module for the drones to attack. Just targeting wont rile them up.

Yeah we had a recent discussion of that and I went out and did some tests (I had posted much like the earlier posts) and I couldn't get the things to attack even when targeted.
If however something does shoot at you - they will respond to that.

Drones on aggressive and not currently shooting something wil attack the last ship that aggro'd you.
Or in theory, that's how they're supposed to work. I don't trust them, myself. It's those shifty eyes

This really. Drones aren't SUPPOSED to aggro anything without already having aggro. But, you hear stories. Not worth the risk, not worth the constant screw ups of aggressive drones in missions. I guess miners might use aggressive drones, but even then they will be stupid and end up dying more often than not.

I'd offer to pay to replace any ship lost because of aggressive drones and thieves, if there was a way to prove it (there isn't), and there weren't so many scammers in EVE, because I'm that sure of it. But I can't for those reasons.
Instead I'll offer 250 million to anyone that tell me how to reproduce a situation where aggressive drones will auto-attack a thief, and that I can verify.
The only time aggressive drones can be a problem is in missions, or when you get dumb fingers syndrome (i.e. it was your own fault).
Oh and of course if you don't know already, disable auto-target-back (set number of targets to target back to 0). It only increases the chance of you will do something stupid.

I use agressive drones all the time, and they dont get me into any undue trouble. They don't do anything unless I get shot at. They don't attack rats that are bugging someone else if they arent bugging me. However, I've not been in a situation where there's a wartarget or thief nearby that is red, so I dont know if they attack red pilots by themselves. I would think they treat pilots like rats. o7 |

I fly drone boats (domi/gila or ishtar depending on) and have for many years. Never had trouble other then them loving to pop triggers, i always have them on agressive. NEVER had them shoot something that will get me concorded, or some ninja salvager, or someone stealing a jetcan...
Never.

Only reason why people claim the drones auto attacked someone who didn't aggress them is because they were stupid and did it themselves. So they try to make up stories to tell to their corpmates who are laughing at them.
I will up the ante, additional 500 mil ISK for someone who shows me a reproducible way of having aggressive drones concord you without your input. _______________________ Find out whome to vote for in the CSM. Match your answers with the candidates. |

Exactly this, drones do NOT EVER attack by themselves just because someone looted from your wreck/can. Not "sometimes" or "who knows, bugs can happen". NOT... EVER!

I've been mining with my drones in aggressive mode for nearly two years. The only time they have ever attacked another player was when I told them too. As matter of fact, getting them off their lazy butts to attack rats is sometimes a problem.

Actually, i can confirm what above posers say about drone aggro, set aggressive/passive.
When iŠm missioning i usually (95%) have my drones set passive, for the simple fact that they behave "nuts" when set aggressive. Let alone more than one group of rats aggroing you, they start flying around desperate, attacking wrong targets. When the field is cleared, and iŠm too lazy to target the rest manually, i set them aggressive and do the work.
When set aggressive, and they are IN dronebay, they even wonŠt shoot a rat shooting (flashy red), after fielding them, without manually targeting at least one rat.
Imo, i canŠt imagine any scenario they will attack anyone (player) without beeing FLASHY red, and if we are talking highsec, this would have caused concord interferance.

Drones will never ever ever ever begin aggression against any target, ever ever. Whether set to passive or aggressive makes zilch difference.
Usually this happens:
- Can flipper gets his lolz on - Can flipper targets miner / ratter - Flipped player has autolockback on.. - See's the Rifter on his target list - Thinks "hmm.. it's only a frigate, my light drones will make quick work of him" - Rightclick, attack target - Arghhhh I'm scrammed! Argghh! He's shooting my drones! - Arghhhh they're gone! - Arghhhh I'm gone! :(
- Corpie: dude, what the ****!? Are you so ****ing stupid to steal the ore back?! - Victim: No ... my drones aggro'd him :( - Corpie: Dude that's harsh, CCP should fix that exploit
5 days later.. Forum poster: Does setting drones to aggressive make any difference? I hear they can cause aggro Corpie: Yup, ALWAYS set to passive. I've seen corp mates get owned by people exploiting this
ANNNNDD so on.
