I can't say that I have ever seen any EAF's in use on the battle front, are they just underrated or hardly used? I put together an EFT of a possible fitting for the Mini, any other idea's, Suggestions, or reasons why we don't see EAF very often?

one time, i got attacked by a keres while i flew in a failfitted caracal doing pve in lowsec. he ran t2s, i ran t1s and named. the only reason he survived was because i didnt have scrambler and he ran away.
EAF ships are some of the most awesome ships in a small gang. Kitsune in particular are very effective. the trouble with the class is that they are frigates, and therefore extremly delicate. most people who have the skill to fly an EAF have the skill to fly a force recon cruiser, which has more ewar power, more firepower, more tank, and a covops cloak ability. even in support of a frigate pack, a falcon is capable of keeping up with the little guys, making the kitsune almost obsolete.
EAF is a class that most people forget about because the force recons do the same job so much better. if ccp wanted to fix that and put them back on the field as a useful ship, they should make them cobops capable. otherwise they'll be a ship used for cheap lulz.
that said, if you want to try the ship, go ahead. they are low skill and low cost.

The setup I fitted in EFT, allows for a 27Km distance both web + point. missiles reach. and perma runs with MWD @ almost 3Km/sec allowing it to keep that range on target, dual webs basically makes targets mwd mute.
I figured if anything it's an interceptor with dual webs?

They fit a very niche role and are the most unused T2 ships in the game as I recall. You will see some Sentinals out there, but the others tend to be even more rare.
The best way to fly an EAF is to never be the first one on the field. If you are you will be popped very quickly. I've seen them used based ater the first 20+ seconds of an engagement start. The Hyena can be used for some tackle, but anything that can hit it will pop it quickly. With a faction setup you can dictate range, but anythign with a flight of light drones will cause you grief. It could just be that the purpose of your life is to server as a warning to others. |

EAFs are great frig roam support ships, but as everyone has said they suffer from going POP! when anything looks at them the wrong way. A sensor boosted Hyena is a great thing to have when catching ships on gates...(insta double-web = no burning back to gate)...and the Kitsune can make or break a frig gang. I've had a Kitsune jamming 3 canes at the same time which the rest of the AFs tore them to pieces...but on the other hand if someone looks at the Kitsune the wrong way POP!....and a Blackbird can do the same cheaper...
In summary, great ships but too expensive and too thin.

EAF are bad because the most valuable resource in a fleet is the individual pilot.
Assume you have a 10 man fleet. 10 people in corp/alliance ready to go out on a roam. Lets assume a vanilla roaming fleet. 1 scout (ceptor/vaga/cloaky recon) 1 light dictor 1 ceptor with fleet 2 logis (generally scimitar or gaurdian) Which leaves you with 5 people who can fly dps or ewar.
Lets assume 4 hurricanes and a falcon. So the fleets brawlers provide 2400dps backed up by 4 jammers on a thin ship. EAFs allow you to field multiple small ships for less cost and slightly more preformance as a group than 1 large 1. Lets assume 3 hurricanes and 2 kitsune. Your brawlers now provide 1800dps backed by 8 jammers on 2 ships that will explode in a stiff breeze.
The brawling section of the first fleet costs ~390mil isk. The brawling section of the second fleet costs ~ 240mil isk.
Thats a difference of 150mil or 3 hours of ratting at 10mil isk/hour for the 5 guys. The jamming is a bit better but you have lost a quarter of your dps. Isk is a factor for some people for pvp but the problem with EAF is the assumption that you can replace 1 guy flying an expensive ship with two guys flying relatively cheap ships. You cant. 1 guy can't turn into 2.

I have to say as a Keres pilot that I agree with some of what has been posted. They (EAF) are thin and are difficult to fly. That being said these little ships are great in small gang warfare. They have a few upsides. The following is for a Keres
1. Properly fitted they lock very fast. I use them to damp down Falcons or other Ewar. Falcons are expensive and any good FC will primary them if they are on the field once they have had their range limited they have 2 choices. Leave or die. I lock most ships in one second out to 100k 2. Always warp in at long range and work into your optimal. Pick your fights. 3 damps can really frustrate the heck out of a BC or BS. 3. The extended range point is a great addition to any fleet. With fleet bonuses and heat management you can get out to 47k or so range.
So yes they are thin, yes force recons work well. But used in the right situations (and in squads) they can be very formidable.
Cheers!
