ITS NOT HARD.
How much isk was your bot making you on a daily basis? Before the afker appeared, that is.

Edited by: Lady Go Diveher on 18/03/2011 10:44:52 You failed when you let him into "your" system to cloak in the first place, jus' sayin'.
(also, an 'entire constellation' from 'one afk cloaker'? Dudes gotta learn to check local.)
Fake edit: Also, try living in some w-space for a while. The AFK cloakers can't lock it down cause you can't see them in local
Real edit: You can fix this game mechanic quite simply. Just make all local 'delayed local' and VOILA. AFK cloaker nerf.

The sleazebag is currently in the R97-CI system, 42-WDG constellation of the Feythabolis region.
With regards, Sihsad Aphuka.
Would have been quicker to look at the only system they hold sov in. Then look at whats around them. Red Overlord, Red Overlord Citizens, White Noise, -A-, AAA Citizens, Stain Empire.
Hardly a salubrious neighbourhood mmm? In fact unless you keep your eyes tightly closed when you're in that area its got to be totally impossible not to notice the bots.

after reading what feels like thousands of these threads this is the first time ive seen this argument put across in a clear non-whining manner.
Why exactly should you benefit from not being at keyboard? If this were PI or R&D or w/e I could accept it but since we are talking pew-pew there should be the old risk-reward thing going on?

Why? Because it's psychological warfare. First they dock, then they wait...then they wait...then they log off ranting. Next day the same happens. Then on the third day...the afk-cloacker isn't afk....and the carebear goes "oh, he's just afking again" and goes to mine the belt. PODDED. Bwaahahaha!
It's a tactic.

The tactic is only legitimate if you remain at your computer. If you cloak up and leave your computer (to watch TV, go to work, sleep etc), then you, your corp/alliance are receiving benefit at the cost of other players while not playing the game. I think that's wrong.

I guess the definition of "legitimate" is important here. So, what is the definition? I assume you are involved in making the rules at CCP.

Edited by: Arnakoz on 18/03/2011 12:35:09 wow, the percentage of r******s and trolls in this thread is astonishing.
1. forming a fleet is a ~BAD~ idea, as you'll likely get moms cyno'd on your nice little fleet. this is exactly what they want. unless you can set up a counter cyno, and have intel on what they would be dropping... don't fleet up.
2. they want you to get comfortable thinking they are AFK; so they can get easy kills. so don't go it solo.
3. giving these guys easy kills makes them stick around. it also makes their buddy's pop in more often thinking they too can get easy kills. so, while you may not care if you lose a ship or three, it's kind of an a**hole move towards your alliance b/c it will only make the matter worse for everyone else. so DONT GO SOLO!
so, you can't fleet up, and can't solo. what's left? well, every nullsec alliance I've known of demands that you doc up when nuets/reds are in system. you can also go to another system, and hope they are actually AFK while doing so - but if they are camping all of your systems ur screwed.
now, given what i just said, those of you who actually think that the OP docs up when nuets are in system because he BOTS need to re-read what i wrote - that is exactly what real players do. its often what they are ordered to do even. and if this still isn't clear, maybe try a lobotomy.
as for the OP - the ability to terrorize the enemy like this is a great tactic, and i don;t think it should be removed. however, i also don't think people should be able to AFK it for 10 hours while working.... so my thinking is make it so the scan would take a number of minutes (20 - 30) , and results in a broad area (like a sphere with a 100km radius) that the prober would warp to some random spot within, and have to manage to get within 5km (or whatever that number was) to decloak still. then there would risk for both sides; if the player isn't afk he may either cyno you or warp to another safe spot. if he is afk you could keep warping in and out and dropping cans to manually triangulate the center of the area; and hoping you manage to warp right on top of him otherwise. warping in with a large fleet would then give a hi chance of instantly finding him, but there is still the risk of cyno... you're choice.
doing it like this would still allow for legit AFK (bio, wife aggro, etc) in enemy systems, and give the locals a method of dealing with full AFK cloakers - but still be risky for them.

Hate to agree with someone thats probably a bot LOL, but its true, AFK Cloaking does need a COUNTER....
All ships have some form of counter in eve, they may not be balanced counters but theres always a counter, AB's have webs, MWD have scrams, frigates have destroyers/other frigates, t3's have the evil neutralizers lol...
All have counters of one form of another, that is every one except for the Cloaky neut/red that goes AFK randomly... no baiting doesnt work, especially for experinced cloaker/hotdroppers, they can smell bait a mile away, and they just sit there for 15-30-60 hours, and randomly come back tot heir PC check around for miners/plexers/ratters, and walla cov cyno in a bunch of his friends and pop the ratters...
You can't travel with pvp buddies 24/7 its just not possible, you can't bait someone that 9/10 wont be at his PC even, and there is no counter, even if you had a skill that required Lvl 5 Astrometrics, all skills, and Engineering 5 and Electronics 5 and then some other new skill to unlock a new type of "Ping Probes" as was said above which i actually liked that idea, a very hard to train for, and requires skill to use, say requires 4 ping probes that only go up to 4au, to scan a cloaked vessel and then that still only gets you to within 10km of the ship... would still require skill to decloak the guy but would be atleast some form of counter.

Well, I'm in a tissue box, so if I do come out of cloak I'm easily killed by a frigate, so put 5 combat drones in space set for aggressive and I might think twice about tackling you. ---

An AFK Cloaker by definition isn't there. My only problem is with the AFK Cloakers who leave their computer, to do something else like watching TV, going to work, sleeping etc, therefore not playing the game.

Hm, indeed there seems to be is a valid argument hidden there that goes beyond the simple whining against AFK Cloakers. Something along; players providing a tactical advantage without being actually active within the game. Of course people should be allowed to shut down a whole system by parking a cloaked ship in it, but they themselves should also be active behind the keyboard to gain this advantage.
Generally I always found it odd why the client never (even before cloaks were introduced) had a time-out due to inactivity.
