The CEO is better to immediately clean his home computer before playing EvE again, otherwise the second he will start the game, the hacker will get his changed password and everything will be done again. - Auditing & consulting

An awesome tale of teamwork, metagaming and hacking.
the devs can only replace so much. What you guys did you should be proud.
The CEO should break open the corp wallet and issue dividends on those that were present.

A suggestion for those that find themselves in a similar situation in the future.
If you can start immediately a vote to elect a new CEO. It will block the CEO access to corp wallet and hangars (unless something as changed from the last election I have seen).

Hahahaha that was strangely intense!

just FYI... 90% of hacked accounts are due to people using the same username and password on other forums and online communities as they do for EVE... so to anyone who's a culprit of this, get your password changed!!

Great story, and I'm glad that you caught it before too much damage was done.
I quite like the meta gaming that goes on in EvE, but I draw the line at account hacking, its lame.

You cannot drop smarties on a station undock. You have to be 2500 outside the station bubble
Great story +1!

Originally by: Stu Pendis**** You lot saved your mate. Seriously. Had he taken the petition route instead of having your assistance and the opportunity, he would be out all, if not the significant portion of his assets.
I speak from direct experience. My account was hacked in the early hours recently. I logged on mid-theft. I changed all the passwords and petitioned, and when CCP finally got around to answering it 3 days later, of course, all the assets were gone, "sold to 'innocent' players" and not able to be returned.
Of course I protested, 'innocent' players my ass, etc. and I had to tolerate the indignation of being accused of buying ISK, etc. until I pressed the point by demanding an account audit.
Brute force hacking DOES occur in this game. It happens a damn sight more than I think is let on.
Good job on saving your mate. Good mates are hard to come by.
Actually brute force hacking doesn't occur in this game, there is an actual cooldown that goes in place if you fail too many times(don't even get me into how many password combinations can exist due to the 8 char limit and other chars required, needless to say, any attempt to brute force the possible combinations would essentially knock the login servers offline and take a few months). Also CCP will sure as hell notice 10k+ attempts in a small period of time. ****, even POS passwords have a scaling cooldown period(increases each time you change the pass) when attempting to brute force.

sadly not true Ive never done any of this in any game but I got me WoW account stolen when I wasnt even playing the game. The inactive account was reactivated by someone other than me and played for a couple months. ------------------------------------ "You know, my foot oughta vandilize your ass" |

This is probably when the CEO (who had been pretending to be hacked in order to clean out the corp and run with the isk) realized he wasn't going to get away with it and cooled his jets.
As posted earlier...there are a lot of questions about things the "hacker" didn't do to make off with the isk.
And, conveniently nobody will know if the CEO filed an actual petition.
TL;DR - CEO got caught and got cold feet.

Right.
And hack bots can't wait x seconds between tries.
Wake up, lad.
The old password requirements were too easy to brute force. And they WERE brute forced.

My take: Your CEO got bored, flew off and decided to have some fun with you guys, staged the whole thing. A real hacker would have either transferred the stuff - personal and corp - to another player and shipped it out that way. But to ship it out in front of your eyes... And a hacker would have blown you guys with the carrier when you had it pinned down, or re-logged or something?
At least you had some fun out of it!

All that remained in his hanger was his newly acquired Caldari carrier. A powerful starship that represents a strategic military resource to all of the players living in the star system.
Now the story is really starting to get interesting. First it was "quick...check the corp hangar and make sure none of our loots are missing." then it's "corp hangars are for carebear wimps and 0.0 corps."

lol, yeah, since the response time to hacking petitions get responded to so quickly.
Is there a petition category with a lower priority than hacking attempts?

Originally by: Valerius so you contacted your ceo... he used his friends computer to download eve, install it, patch it and then log in which took 4h INSTEAD of giving the details to you and letting you bump off the hacker which would have taken 30s?
Also a hacker in a situation like that would have self destructed the ship and not just sat there doing nothing on undock for an hour.
