If I am wanting to make a courier contract involving goods greater than 3900 m3 in size I have a problem because the resulting package will be too big for a Giant Secure Container. Most industrials set up for shipping I imagine have their cargo bay subdivided using these containers. So... what do I do? Should I divide up the goods into separate contracts each with a volume of 3900 m3 or is there a better way?

As long as the size isn't more than 10,000m3 or so I wouldn't worry about it.
Any average industrial will be able to move it. -------------------------------------------------- The wisest mind has something yet to learn. |

Well, if I package 10,000 m3 then it will be too big for a standard secure container, won't it?
That means the hauler would have to remove the containers from his ship to do the delivery--something it probably will not want to do right?

People doing courier contract accept them, put it in their ship, and fly to the destination.
Do not worry about the size. Make your contract with whatever you want and someone will haul it.

People doing courier missions don't generally use GSE because they're only secure when anchored in space and because it isn't necessary. When you set up a courier contract it makes a container for those items listed in the contract. Just keep it to around 10,000m3 and any average industrial pilot will be able to haul it for you. If you make it 20,000m3 then that will limit the pilots to those that are more skilled than most. And freighters are around 800,000m3.

Any package less than 800,000 m3 can be carried by any freighter pilot, just make sure you pay 300-500k isk/jump with a reasonable collateral and you shouldn't have any difficulty finding someone to accept the contract.
I had 5 800,000 m3 courier contracts accepted and sent to the destination system within 5-6 hours today, way better than sending my freighter alt back and forth 5 times. The NEW M.Corp Data Hub - Check it out! |

Basically, where you're going wrong is: no, most people do not subdivide the cargo holds of their industrials that way. It's terribly finicky and bothersome for no real advantage.

when i use containers it is to make my ships carry more stuff. I dont specifically use containers. If it is to hide stuff.. why bother, just put a collateral on it so you make a nice profit when they loose it. thats where the collateral is meant for anyway.

You can also use a General Freight Container holding 120k worth of goods. You can put several of these together into one contract.

Red Frog - Eve haulers.
http://red-frog.org/jumps.php Take a look at http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=763167
The use of Containers has many drawbacks over size. Dont forget once a contract has been "wrapped" the shrink wrap is easy to handle and deal with.
For large hauls why not take a look at our services.
Have a nice day

Standard freight rate is 100k/jump not 500k.... half a mill per jump can get absurd quickly.
