Just don't, get a Legion. Cloaky Proteus is about the best w-space pew t3. PvE Proteus... not so much. |

^ This.
Prot needs MWD, makes it barely cap stable if at all, hence it gets neuted and can't get range or worse.
For C3 anoms, a ship fit that's 55% cap stable can "cap tank" any C3 anomaly. Read: All T3's except Proteus.
Legion slightly pimp-fitted can do C3 anoms in 11-15 minutes.

It really hurts me to say this because I LOVE my Proteus but it really sucks for C3s unless you have a partner who can put out ranged DPS. Rails suck, even T2, and the fact that you will get the crap webbed out of you by rr'd frigates will make your blasters an exercise in frustration.
I used to live in a C2 and my Proteus would simply eat anything it could throw at me. After a couple months I decided to move up to a C3 and was forced to start training for a Tengu because my beloved Proteus was just not cutting it anymore.

You'll want to fit the Tengu module to your proteus for maximum C3 profitability. ♥

Blah don't listen to these dudes.
I have run my proteus in C3 for about 6 months now and let me assure you its fine.
If you cannot run your prot cap stable with 2 armor reppers, you have sh*t fitting skills.
The prot is awesome in class 3s, yes you need a MWD but it takes like....5 seconds to reach the furthest sleepers.
However a T2 fit will not survive the radars/Magno sites.
If your running a T3 treat it as such and lay some isk on some decent gear.

You seem to forget I've watched you fly in an anom, and then killed you. And I know my T2 legion's doing plenty fine with far less on the line.

When did the OP ask any question about pvp?
Yes I got blob ganked and died, but your the only person who cares about it.
The point of my post is that a Proteus can and does easily solo any class 3 site. No other T3 has the sheer awesome firepower that a blaster proteus has.

Edited by: Daneel Trevize on 14/02/2011 00:42:34 Nor the crippled range. Have you even seen a tengu spanking everything within 100km??
The legion copes against it efficiency-wise in a c3 because ~35km optimal is about as far as stuff spawns if you know where to fly to anticipate them. There's no way the proteus can be keeping up due to the times of 0dps while you mwd about and take a pounding. Christ we're talking about hybrids for pve here, blasters at that, and also drones are constantly having to be managed.
And also you have to sink so much more isk into it to start with, it needs far more time and/or efficiency to start paying itself back. I notice yours have become significantly cheaper fit as time goes by (2.7bil, 1.8bil, 1.4bil), I wonder if this is why?
I love blasters and the Proteus, but where they shine - decloaking in optimal and bonused tackle range, and fighting around holes where everyone spawns within 5km or so and wants to stay near.
OP, the best c3 Proteus fit is the cloaky killer, you make plenty of isk off of other shiny ships. |

This.
It's been said already. Proteus is arguably the best WH PvP ship and easily the worst WH PvE one.
If you think a 1.7b Proteus shines in wormhole anoms, when you're constantly chasing stuff around that webs from 30km+, then you're a masochist, sorry.

I am as racist against caldari, with thick oozing hatred toward all things missiles and shields. I am a lover of blaster boats, and all things Gallente.
But if you think the proteus is a good choice for C3s, you're nuts.
OP, seriously, train up a Tengu and save yourself a lot of "chasing crap around" frustration.
....oh and CCP, buff railguns. ♥

Daneel speaks the truth, I was in a couple C3's this weekend looking for some action and when doing due diligence had found that both had had Daneel in them scoring kills within the last 3 months. If he wouldn't pod me or destroy my main's WH POS, I'd love to bring a legion out and figure out how he does it with his crew. I'm pretty sure though he'd send me on my way to a new clone.
I also had this problem this weekend of how to fit a Proteus for sleeper sites and we came up mostly blank. Having had the decloak, pew, new clone trip done to me a few times by a Proteus, I can vouch for them being great gank ships.
Another way you might want to go is how I work with my harby in a C1. I warp to site, bm a structure point, warp out, then warp back in on the structure so I can be with in range of my pulse lasers. It works best with a covops. going in first.

I would if you brought something like your last one. Thought you were better than this, though points for pimping and SS choice. Then negative a bajillion for the mods, rigs and what's in your cargo, not your head. |

Ouch that hurts.
Yeah, being all excited with your new T3 in a WH is a bad thing, I was almost gone, but panicked on getting a warp out point and got caught by the Onyx. I'll be flying a harby for awhile now, which kind of sucks compared to a Drake.
At least that wasn't as embarrassing as how I lost my first Legion.
