Quick question; do cloaking devices work on carriers? And if they do, are they worth fitting for long ops in hostile space without access to a station?

They work.
They are sometimes worth to fit, but if you bring a carrier you generally bring more than one, meaning you can refit at any time anyway. Parrots, commence!

Yes and they are frequently used on travel fits.
Jump > warp and cloak > wait for cap to recharge > uncloak and jump again Sarcasm - Because i'm too far away to strangle you. |

Yes, and no. You'll never be deployed for a long period without access to even a friendly tower unless your executor is an ignoramus and should be shot. "The point of war is not to die for your country, its to make the other bastard die for his." |

Way to think outside the box not the only people owning and using caps are sov holder alliances.
If you want a base of operations somewhere that you don't own, to carry spare ships or mods and hold your loot while you plex quietly in a dead end, then yeah a cloak is a really good idea. However, I would also say that having the carrier on an alt is a pretty good idea, so you can keep it logged off 99% of the time. You really won't want to be deploying fighters if the owners come peeking.

Guess that's a matter of how you define extended period of time. I wouldn't call an evening of plexing an extended period of time, and if it's longer than that I'd probably put down a tower.
The exception obviously being if it's in sovclaimed space and you for some reason find a upgraded system with a low index or ingeneral not inhabited. Granted I'm still not sure a cloak would be of much use in that case seeing how you'd either be actively useing the carrier or have it logged out. Even if you get busted you'd probably keep warping around for 15 minutes and then log during a long warp. Surely you set up safespots even if you're just there temporarily? Parrots, commence!
