Quote: The new NeoCom will not be activated. Based on player feedback and internal review then we decided that this Experimental Feature would be pulled.
So is it gone for good, or still under development for a later release?

Guys, it's obviously not going to be gone for good. By saying it was pulled based on feedback, it's inferred that it's going through extra iterations to implement the feedback.

It has not yet been re-scheduled for another iteration, that's all I can say for now. This was a project done in free time and the feedback was negative so we removed the code.

To be fair, what feedback do you guys get that isn't negative?

:(
I really liked it on SiSi. Not all of the feedback was negative.
Yes, it was unpolished, but it was sexy and quite usable IMO, a certain improvement over what we have now.
Shame to hear that this got canned because of the whines. I think it was a step in the right direction. The UI could seriously use a facelift.

what feedback? Are you serious? The majority was in support for the new neocom. What are basing your facts off of?
The majority was made up by people that loved it, people that loved it but wanted it vertical, and people that didn't care but liked it was optional.
Cant you guys for once do a pool? Just release it on TQ using the optional thing, and then poll everyone that uses it. Just make a pool right here on the forums! also make it one vote per account not per character. It cant be that hard can it?
I'm sorry, I just find it all very odd, I was following it the whole time, and no on that was actually ON SiSi using it had ANYTHING bad to say in FD. In fact a lot of players were saying they were impressive to see eve finally moving forward. And then we get this, it was removed due to negative feedback business, and for some odd reason a thread keep popping up every week "where is the neo neocom?" "what happen to that awesome new UI?"
Isn't that a hint?
Did you guys ask for feedback on SiSi? *not the sisi forums*
This isn't like that virtual battle ground or the zulu mothership changes that had people making negative sigs for on the forum. It wa a bunch of quite people that didn't think it was a big deal to talk about because it just worked, and it was fine.
And now that it's gone you have those quite people raising their voices, going, "hey what happen to that awesome new feature?"
I think most people expected it to be optinonal untill you could make it vertical.
and you're not going to stop having people ask you what happen until you realize support is stronger in favor of the neo neocom.
have fun at fanfest with 1000's of palyers asking you what happen to their favorite new feature.
Maybe just bring it up at fanfest? ask the crowd to cheer for the new one and then the old?

Here's the test server feedback thread on the new neocom. Most of the negative feedback comes either from someone who clearly did not try it on SISI, or from people who just don't like horizontal (for various reasons), which is something the dev blog promised to fix.
Which of those made you pull this much-hyped feature?
Edit: How about allowing horizontal orientation for the current neocom? ...

Edited by: Xenuchrist on 03/02/2011 23:29:00 As long as it is horizontal only, it's a no go. How some devs could even imagine removing precious vertical screen real estate is beyond me. And if adding a vertical option is too difficult to be included in a first release, the programming must be beyond fail.

because cahat boxes and minimised windows go the bottom but open form the left. that's terrible design.
the neo neocom was awesome because it all went to the same place, and it autohid. It's not terrible design, and it was optional to activate untill it was fixed.

I actually wet my pants when i saw the horizontal bar o' usefulness.
EVE's interface has been due a facelift for a while imo and this was just fantastic and i was genuinely disappointed that, like many others, there was no option to have either setup. Sadface.
STOP READING HERE TO STAY ON TOPIC! On a side note, my brain went nuts with the idea that you could get an interface for windows that ran EVE as a desktop, which would give you the full functionality of Windows but simply have EVE running behind it, a la those fancy rolling demo vids of the stations, and give you the ability to be playing it all day long whilst doing other stuff.
PATENTED BUSINESS IDEA FOR CCP FOLLOWS Further to this, and once Incarna is released and such, CCP could go all out, and release a free version of their Walking In Stations expansion for EVE Online.
Hear me out.
New Eden is a huge place, many billions of people fill it with life. LIFE!! Stations in many online games that are populated by only-real-people feel empty and seeing other people moving around becomes a novelty.
My idea is as follows: You install the Incarna client, for free. You create a character and leave it running in the background. Your character will sit about in a variety of locations, perhaps even dressed as and acting like an NPC would do on a station - performing maintenance or whatever. The trick here is that the free client version has NO CONTROL other than camera angle, zoom (and maybe chat? Reasoning to follow). Potentially also with a limited free roam ability.
What this does is fills the stations with some life, which can never be a bad thing. It also introduces many many people into EVE Online, and on several different levels. The Sims-a-like fans will get a kick out of it, potentially getting CCP moar isk, the roleplayers will have an avenue into a rich universe in which they can do their thang - and pay for it, remember, whilst always potentially enticing players into the internet-spaceships side of things too.
Imagine writing an email, and maybe hearing/reading some chat as your uncontrollable avatar wanders into a bar on a station. You click to the desktop to see whats going on. Its shady, with boothed seating holding all manner of wild-eyed madmen shouting at each other or nursing beers as they play a game of cards. Your character takes a seat at the bar, the npc-control ordering a drink as you alter the camera to take in the vivid storytelling of a pirate fresh out of 0.0 space exclaiming impossible to believe tales of space battles involving thousands of ships. In chat, you tell him you'd like to see this and for a nominal fee (microtransaction), a contract is created where this player can take one unit of Tourists to a specified location to look out a window... never mind what might happen on the way there, of course ;)
Or just be sat watching through a massive observation window at the multitude of ships moving to and from Jita 4-4.
Or seeing a massive battleship undock, get attacked and blown to bits... other ships converge on it to steal and salvage the remnants and your friends or family say "is that real?" and you can say 'its happening right now. These people are all real - wanna join? You could be that guy blowing people up! PEW PEW!'
Endless possibilities!
And all through a program running happily along in the background. Of course, should a user decide to play a game, the connection and graphics/cpu usage of this would be suspended and restarted as and when required.

Read: Executive Producer didn't like it and he had 3 customer emails that said they would quit and take their whole corporation with them if it was implemented.

People whine about every single change you make. I'm not even exaggerating--there are changes where I tried really hard to think of a downside and couldn't, but sure enough, there was whining about it.
I saw (and gave) a lot of positive feedback. It needed tweaking and polishing for sure, but the overall idea was very good. It looked good, it worked well, and it was better than the old one in every way except for the few little tweaks that it needed.
The number of "what happened to the new NeoCom?" threads should show you that a lot of people liked it and were looking forward to it.
Stuff like this makes me really hate the EVE community sometimes. I've never seen a group of people more terrified of change and here a really good idea gets shut down because of it. Some people won't be happy unless the whole game is reverted to how it was back in 2004. Those are the people whose complaints should be ignored so that the game can improve and move forward. -----WARNING SIGNATURE BELOW-----

It just means it wasn't someone importants baby. For example, Evegate is an official headline "feature" at it's release, causes a minor threadnaught over default values (something that would literally be changing a default value from 1 to 0). It gets pushed through to production without change because "otherwise no one would use it"
New NeoCom brings up 4 pages of largely constructive criticism and a truly optional feature gets canned (and how many of those do we ever really get?)
To have it pulled because it breaks the game, maybe, ok. I could understand that. But to officially pull a non-mandatory beta release because of some (perceived?) negative feedback just blows my mind.

Not sure why anybody liked it. It reduced functionality of the game. Needed to be scrapped and started over with an actual UI professional rather than some marketing guy trying to sell something. Glad it's dead. Hope when it does get a replacement it actually improves functionality instead of reducing it. My only complaint on it is that it replaces useful text for minimized windows to vague samey bland icons. Try ctrl-tabbing and picking a choice with the mouse to see how useless the bland icons are (I've got 10 chat icons, 5 info icons 3 fitting icons, and 6 icons that look only vaguely different from eachother.) To use the ctrl tab window effectively I'd have to try to remember what icon I'm looking for, and then hover my mouse over every duplicate icon until I get lucky enough to find what I'm looking for, assuming the assigned icon actually makes any sense. Fortunately the ctrl-tab window can be left to die because we've still got the ability to minimize a window and still have some hope of finding it (it minimizes to text.) Remove that last functionality with the awful new neocom's way of dealing with minimized windows and the game becomes practically unplayable. Not an exciting post, but a practical analysis.

Edited by: Cofalib on 04/02/2011 06:49:18 Edited by: Cofalib on 04/02/2011 06:48:36 There was absolutely no reason to refuse to put it into test mode on TQ, No reason what so ever. To not put it on TQ to be tested is just a bad choice in every possible way. There is nothing that you gain from pulling it, and you can only gain more information and feedback if you did.
The fact that it isn't on TQ in optional test makes 0 sense. The only reason to do that is because you simply don't care to improve the game, because you can only IMPROVE the game by putting it in as an option, and can lose absolutely NOTHING.
