i'm not going to complain about the new character portrait generator, which i hate and don't have time to learn. but i do need a solution to this debacle a.s.a.p. since the grace period is going to end soon. (when exactly was that, again?)
anyway, the way i see it, i've invested countless hours training (100m SP x2 accts) and lots of actual dollars (7 years ~ $1260 x2 accts) and now i'm being asked to throw away the essence of that which i've invested in, which is the avatars which represent that investment. avatars that i have, unfortunately, come to feel very attached to.
so without digressing too much into complaining about how i feel, i would like to ask if there are any pleasant souls out there that care about customer service and have a skill with the new eve character generator that would be willing to replicate my existing portraits based on the images that i have saved.
if CCP offers such a service, that would be awesome and i might even retract any negativity i may have let seep into this request. but i have yet to find such a service. if any one else thinks they can help, i will pay ISK or real dollars for such assistance.
thank you kindly, or not, as the case may be.
-suddenly faceless.

Edited by: Valator Uel on 03/02/2011 09:20:53 I honestly doubt CCP will do it, wishful thinking. They are very easy to do and doing two characters doesn't take long (I ended up doing 8). Test first with an alt and then just do it.
Edit : What Chribba said. In isk that'll cost you about 1b per character.

1b ISK just to authorize a portrait swap? really? ugh. i could barely afford one then.
actually, it never occurred to me to consider if it is even possible to do a portrait swap.. i guess that was more wishful thinking..
i'm still hoping i don't have to do it myself.. i really liked what i had before and don't have much confidence i can recreate it with the new system.. but i guess i'll have to tinker with it a bit more. i just wish they had done this at a better time. i'm going through a lot right now and i barely have time to check on my accounts.. i know my schedule means nothing to them (or anyone else) but jeez.
anyway, thanks for the thoughts at least.

It costs 2 plex for a character transfer and 1 plex for a portrait swap. You can also use RL money for either of those.

that's not my char above. i'm still stuck as a silhouette.. i've been trying the new character creator in earnest for the past two hours and i've determined that it won't be possible to recreate my old chars at all.
one of them has a wack hairstyle which i made deliberately silly at first but have come to love. needless to say there is nothing remotely close in the new system.
the other char has a relatively normal siebestor hair style that i can almost reproduce but she also has grey skin tone with grey hair and grey eyes. the eyes are no problem. the hair always turns out kind of platinum-blonde instead of grey which throws it off but the skin tone is totally wrong. it seems like you only get a few shades of pink-to-brown to choose from. i tried cheating with blush but you only get "natural" blush colours. apparently purple is natural but grey isn't.
anyway, it looks like a lost cause. still, thanks to everyone for their suggestions and info.
Edit: it's only actually been one hour with the editor; i guess it just seems like two hours.

I will make you super sexy. On a side not, unrelated to my offer. What's to stop someone from making your characters hideous?

Well I was bored so I took a crack at recreating the character you're posting from. The reference wasn't the greatest and besides that a lot of the facial structure choices you've made aren't really possible in the new engine.
Likewise, you can't really be as palid as you are in the original still I managed to drain some of your color playing around with the purple blush at very light opacity. I also wasn't sure just how intimidating that toon was meant to be but I got a pretty menacing vibe so I went with that instinct.
I think with a bit more effort a better attempt at remaking your original could be made but I honestly think you should try to make a new Avatar instead. Even with assistance you won't have exactly what you had before and I think you're probably hampering your own creativity by trying to copy your original work. Think of this as an opportunity to reiterate on your original ideas for an avatar. Take a core idea or single aspect and play around with that aspect until you make something you like, that way you have something original and new that still rings true to your old avatar.

after grace period, i expect they will not let you log in until you finish your portrait.
as far as i can tell, the grace period is one month from the introduction of the new system. so about half a month from now, if my sense of time isn't failing me.
Originally by: Quemist I will make you super sexy. On a side not, unrelated to my offer. What's to stop someone from making your characters hideous?
i am assuming there is some sort of approval process in the portrait transfer.. (more wishful thinking?) anyway, thanks for the offer but i'm not looking for sexy, specifically; i was just hoping someone could make my character the same as before, which looks like it isn't going to happen. :(
Originally by: Heathrow Well I was bored so I took a crack at recreating the character you're posting from....
that looks quite similar to what i came up with. although, maybe not that surprising since there seems to be a lot of limitation. i was trying to at least get something that looks like the same person. different clothes, hairstyle, whatever, even facial expression, no big deal. but i want to try to preserve the skin colour and basic feel as close as possible so it might look like the same person on a different day.
i think you're right, unfortunately, it looks like i'm going to have to spend a bunch of time on it making a series of compromises.. and i can't really expect someone else to make the same compromises that i would. :(
thanks anyway, all.

I think Minmatar and Amarr have the best shot at getting a face that looks like the old one. Just look at mine, the only thing i couldn't choose was a cape. But, serious, Gallente and Caldari are off worse.
I would advice giving it a shot, i also overcame my frustration.

Yeah, it's tough to get the new characters to look similar to the old ones. Takes a lot of time, at least a few hours, usually a lot more. I'm not sure about having someone else do it since there's a lot of other things to consider also such as background, lighting, etc.
I got most of my characters to closely look like their old portraits, should have worked on a couple of them a bit more. There will be other chances for character re-creation later when CCP adds Tattoo's, Piercings, etc.
Seems the forums and the Eve Faces site aren't showing the same portrait as was saved on a couple of them.
Don't know why this character shows the saved face while in game compared to what shows in the Eve Faces site. DeMize Cruller http://evefaces.com/?DeMize%20Cruller
These other ones are very close to the originals. http://evefaces.com/?Kaeoz http://evefaces.com/?Crimson%27s%20Girl http://evefaces.com/?DeMont%20Cruiser This one didn't have the light shine in the glasses when I saved it.
I'm gonna redo this character portrait and make it look closer to my original one. http://evefaces.com/?DeMichael%20Crimson
All I can say is instead of logging in to play Eve for a few hours, just log into the character creation and play there for a few hours, prolly more like 4 to 6 hrs if you have an old computer like me. Some of mine I spent up to 8 hrs, course that includes taking some breaks. If it doesn't come out close to how you want it, don't finalize it, log off, think about it, sleep on it and try it again the next day.

If by 'natural' you mean 'Lifelike' then I think you might wanna get your eyes checked.
No offense to either of you but it looks too perfect, there's no ageing, etc which makes the skin look almost plastic and reminds me of an oil painting done by Rembrandt or another artist from that era.

Have you seen my eyes? Lol, I do agree there is a plasticness to the whole avatar thing but what I really meant was the face proportions. Lips are not too fat etc.
I wouldnt want to meet the guy above you in a dark alley. He looks like Charles Bronson.

It's not possible to recreate the majority of the old avatars. Like the OP I was wanting to recreate my old ones, but as soon as I started I realised it wasn't going to happen so just made new ones trying to keep to the same atmosphere I had before.
It wasn't that hard a system as I have used tools such as Poser and the like before as I am a professional photographer and use stuff like that to try out lighting rigs before a shoot with a new model. The system here is really limited with the lighting, hair, and clothing especially. What distinguishes most avatars now is their placement in the frame and hair colours, not their physical characteristics.
The creator is crying out for more customisation options. |

The model is pretty good but the framing leaves a lot to be desired. |
