Yesterday I was pulsing my X-Large Shield Booster on and off when I got the idea that you could probably automate this and have a timer turn it on and off.
For example lets say your booster runs every 5 secs but its not even close to being cap stable, you could set a timer so it would turn on for one 5 second cycle, wait 5 seconds, then turn on again, and repeat.
This would open up a number of possibility's for us pod pilots. You could probably make a custom timer so you can set your own timer down to the seconds. This wouldn't just apply to shield boosters, this could apply to anything, cap boosters, armor reps, nos, neuts, etc.
I think it could be a good idea, what do you guys think?

Depends on how much more work the server would have to do I suppose. Seems like another feature to suit the lazy player though.

You can already do this an is common practice in pvp, no need to automate it.

If you want to sustain a tank and make the cap last longer, try using a Large instead of an XL.

perhaps you could use a nos to gain back cap while in your mission deadspace area. Maybe you could use a nightmare which can perma-run certain X-Large shield boosters?

I've often thought it'd be nice if you could set certain mods so they would 'sustained' so that they will fire frequently enough to not cap you out.
But tbh its already easy enough to get good cap stable shield booster set ups that shred level 4s without taking away the only micro there is in PvE.

Strangly i had the exact same though just a few days ago.
I thought that as long as the auto activate timers cant go below the modules own rof, it should be fine and work great.
Could have some fun with mwd pulsing too, great for poor cap ships to survive better in the heat of combat without the dreaded "oh shoot ive drained myself completly dry" scenario.
good luck with this top idea, i hope theres little to gain from the botters however, last thing anyone wants to do is make them easyer to use or better at what they currently do.

Even more strangely, so did I. Was just thinking how nice it would be, to be able to script a shieldbooster... different scripts such as "start boosting at 50% shield, boost to full" or "boost whenever shield HP loss = boost amount" or something.
Creepy.

Automated pulsing of a booster should just be a client side thing.
An alternative plan is slider to reduce the amount of boost/cap used for each cycle. Instead of a shield booster repairing 100% of its normal shield points, you could set it to repair 50% of its normal shield points and use only 50% of its normal cap.
A third plan would be to trigger the booster when the ship's shield falls below a certain threshold. If we can have a sound trigger, why not trigger an action?
