For the past several weeks I've been fighting with Time Machine to try and figure out why it was wanting to do 5.5GB+ backups every time. I am confident that I've finally pinned it down to the Eve Online preferences folder in "~/Library/Preferences/Eve Online Preferences".
If you are backing up huge amounts of data with Time Machine every time you may want to add that folder to the time machine exclusion list and manually copy your Eve preferences to a safe spot.

1) that's too much, actually. "Eve Online Preferences" contains a whole simulated C-Drive, ie all the user data including caches. My "Eve Online Preferences" amounts to 2 GB, but within it, "caches" alone already is 1,94 GB. It is sufficient to exclude "~/Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility/cache", thereby the settings folder, which is right next to the caches, will be kept.
2) i also excluded Applications/EVE Online.app, as it is over 6 GB and I suspect that Time Machine backs up most of it after a patch (.apps are nothing else than folders, but if the patches modify huge files inside of that container....)

Thanks for posting this! I've been wondering wtf was going on with my backups. Also wondering if these folders always contained this much data, or is this the result of a recent change? CCP? Anyone?

Edited by: Myriel Viper on 28/01/2011 13:17:36 Thank you! While it would have been a while until my 1.5 TB drive is full the excessive hourly traffic became pretty annoying.
