Now there would be areas of concentration within that asteroid, and you would have to keep the laser beam moving to the "hot" areas, while the scanner is constantly scanning and showing new "hot areas" to move to.
These hot areas would influence the mining rate of the strp miners anywhee from -75% of yield to 200% (double) of the yield mentioned on the asteroid. THe scan would look much like the scans of planets in PI now. WHen you deplete an area, justmove te laser to the new hot area. You would have to keep orbiting the asteroid and mining the areas to finally deplete the asteroid, and if you mine a "cold area" for too long, it will just stop giving anything at all. So a good miner would be able to get a maximum of 1080m3 per cycle, and go as low as 135m3 in a cold area of the asteroid. The total amont and asteroid can give could be anywhere from 30-50k units in highsec, to 300k-500k in nullsec.
Of course, the nullsec asterois would be far bigger than the high secs ones, therefore having more hot areas to mine in. To mine an asteroids, first you approach the asteroid. When you get wihin 20km, you can scan the asteroid - this is optional. This gives an early indication of the size, the hotspots available and the rough amount of ore avaialble in the asteroid.
Then you send out your probes from a midslot module. You have the Astrogeological Surveying skill (requires Surveying III, Science III and Mining III, x5 training multiplyer, increases probes x2 per level and mining yield by 5% per level), which allows you to send up to 10 probes out at once. The more probes you send out, the higher the scan resolution, and the better quality hot areas you can reach. After you pick your first hot area, you then begin your lasers û your yield will be measured in seconds to keep accurate.
As you deplete your hot area, it's colour begins to change from white, to red, to orange, to yellow, to green, to blue, to black (depleted). Here are the hot areas: White - 160%-200% Orange û 120%-160% Yellow û 80%-120% Green û 40%-80% Light Blue û 0%- -40% Dark Blue - -40%- -80% Black û Depleted
As your hot area depletes, the mining yield goes down, and you must move on to another hot area to keep up the mining yield. You will have to reduce your scan resolution to keep finding the hottest areas once you deplete all obvious ones. Once all ore has been depleted, the asteroid will pop, leaving a possibility of rare ore from the centre of the asteroid. This could be any ore, and amounts ranging from 10-10,000 units.
In this idea, you are hitting many birds with a single stone. You are making mining far more fun and profitable, but also are making it damn hard for the macrominers out there, as it requires a human element to get the most out of mining, instead of the "point and shoot" method now.
So then, over to the general eve forum people, what do you all think of this?
BTW: TYVM to rock crawlermne/NinjaSpud, your post gave me the idea :)
Edit: To help newbies, what you could do, is any character under 20 days old can mine it will be guranteed 100% yield.
