When will they add an option to disable character fidgeting? It is VERY difficult to sculpt the character when they keep moving.

This I'd like to know too. If I understood the blog right, it said we can recreate once, within the grace period. It didn't say anything about cancelling an ongoing edit. So, it would be good to have confirmation, one way or the other. --

Thank you CCP for listening. Could you also look at making the last picture in the conformation screen larger, so we get a better idea of how we look.
Also can you take a look at the 'WANTED' sign, with new portraits I think it needs a re-design.

But be careful, when you create portrait like mine, it will be replaced with Nickname strip in NeoCom. Are you planning to show us strip wide during character creation?

I strongly support this. Now that the expansion update has been postponed, this would be a good time to add that. :) Especially since snapshots are really that: taken just when your character may have her eyes closed or something. It's really important to get that right. Hontou ni! :) Like the clipping errors in my hair. I assure you, they weren't there in 'big'. --

My computer is still struggling with the character creator, but I've had a chance to look it it, albeit laggy. I was very disappointed to see that hair colour, eye colour, and skin colour were specific choices, and not a colour palette we could pick from. At a glance, that would be an easy indication of racial differences, since each race would have slightly different palettes to choose from.
And we can do all these fancy customisations to the body, molding and shaping it to our wills, but we have predefined hairstyles? What about letting us mold and sculpt hair as well. At a minimum, there should be a slider for overall length, and a slider for overall curl.
Oh, and add a slider for overall body height.
Amarr characters need to have an additional slider for the length of their heads. That was something many users really enjoyed about the Amarr characters.
(Notice that I said sliders, and not predefined choices)
Also add a button to pause character action. When shaping a character, the model needs to be stationary. Push "play" to see your work in motion.
There needs to be an undo button, that remembers several steps, so you can step back out of changes you've made that you decide you don't like after all, instead of trying to remember what miniscule steps to manually undo.
Have the tool allow an export of the options that exist for the current character, in the event the user likes the design and wants to base an alt character off of it. Then have a corresponding input box that reads such an export string or file and builds the character to that point, with the caveat that same gender, race, and bloodline are required. Of course, no undo information would be transferred. This could also be a way to save a "temporary work-in-progress". If a person wants all of his or her characters to be identical, this is an easy way to allow it.
This information obviously already exists, it just needs to be exposed to the user, but only at initial character creation time. (Please don't forget to validate the input?)
The initial character creator is where options specific to your race or genetic background are selected. For Minmatar, this includes their tribal tattoos, which should be added by default with a warning for removing them. Some stock jewellery/piercings and scars should be available, but much more should be available in the in-game stores.
Obviously scars are more involved, so a customisation (cutting) tool would be needed in addition to some stock choices ... let people cut their characters instead of themselves.
The initial choice of clothing should reflect that race's culture to some degree: functional and utilitarian for Minmatar, flashy and flambouyant for Gallente, stylish but utilitarian for Caldari, and either robes or regal attire for Amarr. You could get anything else in the Empire stores. Perhaps something "rogue-ish" for each race as well, to reflect the disassociated youth.
This tool is a great start, and has so much potential.

Ok the Character creator makes my guys look extremely good. I'm very pleased with it. It's all going in the right direction. I do have one problem which I hope is being rectified in the next patch and that is my Amar char has a hood and I didn't design him with one and I didn't save him with one and I don't want him to have one. So please fix this.
Also, I'd like to put my voice in for allowing a player to "monkey around" with his portrait as a permanent feature of the game at NO isk cost please and for expanding the choices available for characters. For example, the clothing is excellent looking but too limited and the color palette is a little too "Eve"; that is "bland" and limited and dark.
Again, the Character Creator is incredible and fun and a great way to further involve and attach the player with the game. Great job.

I have some problem with the character creator.
When using shader at medium/high performance to scroll the available hair, cloth, etc... takes and eternety, because you dont have a scroll bar nor arrows to move tje selection. Instead you need to switch between option by click on right or left of the window (selection the option and rendering all over again).
I have laptop with a dedicated vfdeo card of 1GB and still takes a lot of time to finalize the character. I gave it up for now. Will try again when i have more time.

Am I screwed when the grace period ends?
No idea, seems like CCP is paying more attention to fixing the actual gameplay stuff first. I have no idea if they're bothering with the character creator issues currently (or ever) because it affects a small minority of players (ie myself). It WOULD be nice, however, for CCP to acknowledge that there is an issue on their end on this. I don't see anything on the latest patch notes in regards to char creator issues.
Have you tried ****ing around with your graphics settings, and does your CPU meet minimum requirements (ie is it SSE2 capable)? Some people have managed to wiggle their way through the char creator by repeatedly playing with shader and texture levels... but it's not doing the trick for me on either of my machines.

I like having the ability to go back and fix our portraits. My first run (thank god I used my alt) I didn't know the 4th snapshot was the defalt one to be used. Taking four snapshots lead me to believe I could switch between portraits as I pleased (or for a fee). Which leads me to the question about why the need for 4 snapshots? If we only use one, then why not just take one pic and be done with it?(not complaining, just curious)
I was also wondering if it would be possible to remove sun glasses once the scars/gagets/trinkets come out. The complete lack of these things prompted me to use glasses (since it looked better than having nothing)but if I have more options I might want to ditch them for something else (perhaps a googly eyed space monical)
Oh and just to throw it out there, cigars would make for interesting trinkets. (You could make a toon look like Peter Parkers's boss) :D

So basically, the problem CCP is having is the problem that's been talked about on Sisi since the new character creator was put up for testing? And now we're suddenly surprised that the portrait phase isn't clear, despite all that discussion from the last few months?
Honestly, I don't even know why they bother with the test server if they're going to ignore the feedback.

I moved all my settings to the lowest settings possible, with the same result...just hanging with the progress bar, everything else blank. Left it that way for 15 minutes, to no result. |

+10 We're 'sculpting' an object and making still images of it. Having said object fidget while it is being worked on is a Bad Thing; a 'freeze' button would be a big bonus.
I also agree that having the confirm dialog show the picture in all used resolutions (channel list to large-scale) is a good thing that should be included. Even better, the active picture's various sizes should be shown on or, in a popup selectable on, the camera screen .

Just as many players already said: Thanks at first to CCP for the great job! I generally like the new Chars.
But also - as many already mentioned - I'm also a bit of disappointed. Even tough, the old Char-portraits were 2D only, there were more possibilities to adjust the look of the avatars.
With the new editor and its great (potentially unlimitted) possibilities, IMHO there are at the moment too few options for customizing a charakters look.
Just to complete the wishlist from my point of view:
If I wanted to create a char with a bald head... I mean, a real bald head, that's not looking like shaved, but like simply having no hair (anymore). This ist not possible.
Wanting to create a very skinny/meager char (or even a very fat one), the given options don't cover this. Even the skinniest setting lets the char still look like an athlet.
Apart from that, there's often just a quite limitted palette of colours available. A guy with albinotic red eyes wouldn't be possible atm.
Last thing, the clothes. I don't know, if the selectable clothes depend on the Chars nation and origin, but I felt, there were by far too little choices.
Again: I do really like the new Chars, but my impression of the editor is a bit like "incomplete".

Originally by: Chiselhead No, I do not want to update my char. It was fine the way it was, its a shame your team couldn't have given a little more thought to this and allowed players to import the avatar they already had to a body that I don't need for sitting in a spaceship, yes I know this is another step in the preperation for your Ambilation, a feature I personaly don't see a need for in a spaceship game. Now the position I'm taking by refusing to update any of my characters on all of my accounts is this, I'm so tired of features in this game that I keep growing to like that keep getting destroyed in some part by your dev teams, so lets put them up for an example, in the time I've played I saw the speed nerf, and yes some people besides me are still none to pleased with that nerf, then the mess your team made of exploration, I still don't like it the way it is now, then you offered PI and then your team reduced my production in this by a whopping 66.6%, and I could go on about the features that have so screwed up that at least for me I feel I have no better choice to make but say NO. Let us import our old faces surly this is in the realm of possibilities, Good luck.
Wow. you are an unhappy individual! I'm not sure what your problem really is. It would be impossible to import your old 2D low quality head shot onto a new 3D high quality body. Not only impossible, but impractical and ridiculous. Yes there have been changes to this game as it has evolved. And yes these changes cause a lot of us inconvenience and in some cases a lot of time/effort/work we've invested in them. Yes, it sucks that your PI has been reduced by 2/3. But everyone's has. They did that to address some sort of balance issue. Yes, the speed nerf really hurt a lot of people that had trained their character to use speed as a method of defense that could no longer do so, at least not effectively. And yes, it's sad to lose that tiny little face that you designed so long ago and have grown to know (as well as the faces of your corp mates!), but such is the price of progress my friend. And this progress isn't easy. Even something as unimportant to the gameplay of EVE as creating your character has caused a LOT of problems for the players and therefore the devs as well. But once the issues have been worked out and the flaws ironed out, more progress can come after. YOU might not want ambulation. But looking at these forums a LOT of people are really looking froward to that. It is unlikely that CCP would halt progress toward that end because you (and you're not alone!) want to keep their old portrait. Would you want them to halt all progress so as not to step on anyone's toes? Would you have them reload EVE to it's 2003 Beta version? Just take advantage of these new features and make the best of it like we all have!
Sorry but it is very possible to do an import. Not you nor myself ever created a 2D image, it is only observed as a 2D image kinda like the new avatars will be seen in only 2D. The only reason I can see for not being able to import a previous image is it wasn't considered at all, I do appriciate your attempt at trying to be helpgul but honestly in this instance you are incorrect.

Appreciate CCP quickly reacting to feedback with these changes which are appropriate and appreciated. I'm pretty happy with my avatar but will likely tweak a bit before grace period expires. But I am confused by one thing. There are no dark skinned people in EVE? No Browns? No Blacks? .....
OK I just went off and checked and it looks like the only option to be able to have dark skin is choosing the Brutor bloodline in Minmater race. hmmmmmmmmm
