May be totally pointless, but what if each of our ships could have option to display its age since last repackage?
I know that this type of age would be purely sentimental value, but sentiment plays important role in human psychology.
Ppl tend to collect old things or to bond with their own ol trusty stuff. Destroyed "old" ship would cause more bitter tears to its owner, and greater joy to pirate. Older ships would also give greater pride to its owners because it would show his skills in pvp.
If added to game: - Destroyed ship would have its age displayed - Contracted ship would have its age displayed - Player info would have new info item: Age of currently boarded ship
What do you think?

Could also implement that into market contracts. A repackaged ship will wipe its age ofc but a old ship should be able to be resold on contracts... Also THAT MEANS WE COULD GET SHINY NEW MINMI SHIPS!!!

I think the problem with this and similar ideas is the heavily normalized database which will jump over backwards with these kinds of changes. ---

I think you missed the part where it won't carry across repackages, so the database impact should be minimal.
That said, I treat my ships like I like treat hammers. Useful tools, but if one breaks I don't get all teary eyed - I just get another one and go back to whatever I was doing. --Vel

Mm fair enough. My shippies break all the time, so you won't hear me complaining either way. ---

I think each ship should actually have like 4-5 different textures, with varying amounts of rust/scratches depending on how old it is

Yeah it would be cool. Something similar: different texture per different percentage of ship damage has already been proposed / suggested several times here. Once even by me :) It either wouldn't add weight to bandwith because its client based and ships already display amount of damage: shields/armor/hull
But pls don't lets go back on topic: Ship age -- Eve Online related stuff |

My mammoth is about 5 years old. Probably the oldest one in the game. Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says "Oh crap, he's up!"
