Edited by: Taiki Nakamura on 30/12/2010 00:15:19 Edited by: Taiki Nakamura on 30/12/2010 00:15:08 Hey, I've just came back to eve after having only played for a few months a few years ago (at around 8m sp but 1.5m in PI it seemed a nice place to transfer my Learning sp). Currently in a myrmiron doing level 3 missions, and in around 2 weeks I'll have the skills to fit a domi, and then another 3 weeks for sentry II's. So my question is when I've done this what are my options? Surly I won't be flying a Dominix forever.

You could try and Ishtar, which doesn't have near as much tank but can effectively speed tank some things.
Alternativley, a Rattlesnake, which has, arguably, the meanest passive shield tank in the whole game. Gila is an option as well.

Well... you might be. For most purposes it's hard to beat. An Ishtar (or Gila I suppose) is better in some circumstances and a tricked out Navy Domi or Rattlesnake can eke out a bit more L4 performance than a normal Domi -- but that's just about it.
I think this is just about the most gank you can get out of a semi-reasonable subcap drone boat:
[Dominix Navy Issue, T2 SDA injected?] Power Diagnostic System II Republic Fleet Tracking Enhancer Republic Fleet Tracking Enhancer Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer
Pithum A-Type Medium Shield Booster Imperial Navy Heavy Capacitor Booster, Cap Booster 800 Ballistic Deflection Field II Heat Dissipation Field II Federation Navy Omnidirectional Tracking Link Federation Navy Omnidirectional Tracking Link

Large Sentry Damage Augmentor II Large Core Defence Capacitor safeguard I [empty rig slot]
Garde II x5 Warden II x5 Warrior II x5 Ogre II x5
But I'm sure someone will be along shortly to point out some sort of flaw there.

Well, you could always try doing something less boring than missions.

Hmmm, Looks like a dominix should keep me busy for a long time ^^ , Think I'll look into the rattlesnake... flying a scorpian ship alone sounds like fun. As for

I'm open to any suggestions if you're willing to be more specific, ps mining isn't one.

The problem with missioning - and mining - is they're monotonous and fairly fundamentally lack challenge. I mean, the first time through, sure, they're a problem to solve (or you could read the appropriate guide). But after that? Not so much. They make a reasonable amount of profit - per hour of 'work' - but... well, frankly if you're working in isk/hour, you're doing it wrong. There is almost always a better way of generating income.
So anyway, as for 'less boring'. W-Space is quite interesting, a little more hazardous, and as a result more profitable. Likewise, factional warfare. There's mission type stuff to be doing there, but there's really no challenge quite like gunning for another player. (Or them gunning for you).
For L4s, given you can do them all in a battle cruiser, what need is there to upgrade? Sure, you can iteratively optimize, and be able to run Angels Extravaganza 5 minutes faster, but ... really, the PvE is not why EVE is a great game. You're missing about 90% of the game, and it's the interesting bit you're missing out on.

425mm rail domi This is pretty much endgame for the domi, might be able to tweak it out a bit and squeeze a few extra DPS from it, but at that point you'd have to be doing missions with a stopwatch in hand to notice the difference. That said, as far as highsec drone boats go, that's about as good as it's going to get. |

Find an activity which is performed with other pilots and stop playing EVE as a single-player part-time job that you have to pay for?

It really is beyond comprehension for two people to play the same game for different reasons huh?

I'd say that there are a lot better places than PI to put your learning points.
The progression from myrmidon goes to either ishtar or dominix and then to rattlesnake/pimp dominix/navy dominix.
However, after playing with drones in a vexor/dominix for a long while and starting to cross train for a rattlesnake I tossed out that plan and trained for a tengu instead. I'm pretty happy with the decision. Not only does it get you a good mission boat that scales well with faction mods in both offense and defense but it's also training you a lot of the support skills that you'll use with a Caldari Navy Raven or Golem.
Edit: The tengu is expensive iskwise to get into initially though.

after the domi the only upgrade possibile to stay in a droneboat is a carrier.
or you have to skills turrets/missiles

Edited by: Keitaro Baka on 30/12/2010 14:35:45 I trained for domi and was in domi from when keit was about 1 month old, which is something like 6,5 years ago. Obviously I sucked at flying it, but this was before t2 even existed and lvl 3 missions were really hard.
Basically I tried every drone ship in eve (non cap) and really, since the Eos nerf, you're kinda stuck between Ishtar, Navi Domi, Domi and Gila/Rattler if you want pure drone pve-ing.
If you however have very good drone and hybrid/missile skills you will generally find out that for lvl 4s you're not going to out do the 350mm rail, t2 sentry Dominix. Rattlesnake has an absurd tank and is best for afk-ing missions (cap stable, tanking everything, heavy drones) and the ishtar might have a really nice kin/thermal tank, but the impact of the rail/sentry domi is just higher. The Navi domi can't fit the rigs you really want to have.
After about 4 years of exclusively flying dominix for mission running, I simply trained minmatar, projectiles, missiles and shield tanking. With that skillset you can simply start blitzing mishes with maelstrom/machariel.
Imho you're stuck at Dominix and can use stuff like HM Gila, Ishtar and Rattler as fun distractions for certain mishes. But crosstraining helps :D Ignore me
