To be fair I'm certain they meant the actual ingame eve community and not the dregs of society here at the forums.

Nothing really "innovative" about World of Tanks. Fun game...great game...but not really innovative. Of course game of the decade went to WoW. Go figure.

I wonder what the sound team thinks about this outrageously unfair treatment...

For what? DAoC was absolutely brilliant. The only things EVE has going for it over DAoC are carebear tears and lasers.
DAoC had vikings, which mitigates the awesomeness of lasers. And carebear tears are delicious, no doubt, but their availability makes people risk averse. With DAoC, there was no need to wait, bait or forum *****. Viable solo PVP, small group action or even epic blob vs. blob fights were only a portal away.
'sides, after DAoC went braindead in a tragic car accident, the money-hungry Mythic put it on life support and just wouldn't let it die. Let the poor thing have the award; it's been so horribly abused. EVE should be striving for Best PVP Game of the Century, anyhow.

I love Eve, but our community is nothing but one huge collective *******.

DAOC deserves the pvp title. For those that actually played it... It was hands down the most fun pvp of any MMO i've played. And if it weren't for lack of numbers and aging engine it would still be a good time.
I can see the EVE community being better just because of the involvement toward improvement to the game. Rather than the nerdom one uppery or social ******ation.

Edited by: Foxgguy2001 on 28/12/2010 02:12:07 Its interesting to see how people perceive "the community"...it says a great deal more about how they conduct themselves and who they associate and interact with more than it speaks of the community at large. That said I think this community is great, and I play with some great guys. More-so, the people I choose to interact with are usually the good sort as well...though occasionally you gotta drive through the slums to get where your going ;)

Amazingly, I agree with the choices they made. Normally there's always some "wtf" choices going on but this time it seems to be spot on.

The community goes FAR beyond terribad forum whoring. Take a look at the science and industry/market resource threads. Do you see all of those third party applications? The spreadsheets? Ever used EVE-files, eve-agents, eve-search, eveboard, or any of Chribba's other excellent *NON-PROFIT* web sites? Compare to WoW websites which are all pretty much for-profit and/or run advertisements.
EVE online is also one of the *ONLY* communities out there who actually treat truly new players well. We have EVE-University which is dedicated towards helping out new players, Agony Unleashed and Red vs. Blue which strive to teach newer players PvP. If a new player comes to the forums and asks an honest question, there are far more helpful replies than trolls. If they ask it in the new players forum, there is probably a 99.9% guarantee that there will be NO trollish replies at all.
EVE Online's community is FAR more helpful than any other MMO community. You just have to keep your eyes open and a straight head to find it. ----------

I think it's totally deserved, myself. The EVE community is unlike any I've seen elsewhere and I've travelled fairly widely in this respect.
When I think of things like...
All the awesome videos players make (Think "Clear Skies" for just one great example) EVE TV (Which was predominantly driven by the community in early days) ISD (Bug Hunters finding bugs, Mercury pushing the storyline forward, Interstellar Correspondents covering player actions, STAR helping new players get into the game, YARR managing the Evelopedia - and all of them, volunteers from the community) CSM (Almost entirely community-driven - which is the point after all) EON (Which consistently features content provided by the community) The huge amount of community sites and resources (From Scrapheap Challenge to EVE Survival to the ISK Guide, to Eve Files, to...the list of useful, often professionally-made sites and resources go on and on.)
And this is before you even dive into the game and consider things like the vast swathes of player-driven, community-created content out there! I'm thinking of headline-grabbing stuff like BoB's disbanding, or Shogaatsu's emptying of Aegis Militia's coffers. The in-game community, and the things that arise out of their dedication to, and love of the game (in all the twisted and dark forms that takes) creates content that is genuinely unlike anything else out there. For years now, players have made the best content creators, and not just compared to CCP, but compared to other games out there too. Think on that. It's pretty surreal, and amazing.
All of that just barely scratches the surface, too. They're just things I pull off the top of my head.
The award makes a hell of a lot of sense to me.

It's true. Just look at WoW's UI; at this point it's something like 65% mods that have been coopted by the retail client (and the other 35% shamelessly stolen from other games). Umm... not that letting users mod the UI is a good thing. *cough* ______
I feel as though I could do anything. For example, stab this cheese knife into the Self-Taught Man's eye. |

No offence CCP Dropbear, but according this:

there isn't EVE community...
it is EVE society (by meaning: many communities = society)

Naive, much? Eve online is no better in this department than any other MMO. I'd almost peg it as worse as the majority of other MMO's. No one ever said I was only considering the forum, either.
But, whatever you want to believe is fine.
