Originally by: Surfin's PlunderBunny I think the op meant burglarized, not robbed.
Although buglurized would be the most correct term to use, robbed still works.
'The thieves robbed a bank' is another example of how robbery can be used in this type of situation.

Just wanted to mention that if you had any type of cards saved on those systems you might want to call your bank and get them canceled now. Friend had his X-Box stolen and is having a crappy time due to the thieves buying crap on his X-Box. |

But robbing a bank is robbery
Robbery: The felonious taking of the property of another from his or her person or in his or her immediate presence, against his or her will, by violence or intimidation.
Burglary: The felony of breaking into and entering the house of another at night with intent to steal, extended by statute to cover the breaking into and entering of any of various buildings, by night or day.
So it was burglary unless the guy pushed the kid over and took the stuff from him

True. I quickly went with the Websters definition instead of referencing Common Law and I should have remebered the inclusoin of a violent act in robbery.
That being said there there are those that would argue B&E is a violent act in of itself. Castle Doctrine?
But honestly I do not even understand why there needs to be a differentiation anyway. Someone robs you and then batters and/or assults you. In law I would figure that they would rather keep two charges instead of rolling two charges into one.

Yes it is. Speaking from the point of view as someone who has a plethora of consoles from generations reaching back to the NES all the way to a DS and a 360 AND a PC, it's a goddamn stupid idea giving all of that to a 10 year old when they have better things to do at that age. There's just no reason to have a Playstation, Xbox, AND a Wii, AND a PC. Two or three is pushing it, all four is spoiled.
Do you think he's playing all four at once? Do you think he's got a complete library of games for all of them? This is even neglecting the part were op said it was his own once that ended up in his sons hand. If he only had one of the consoles he would probably spend as much time with it as he does with all of them.

That post in particular was specifically targeted towards the notion that a 10 year old having that much equipment was not "Too much". _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Originally by: Malaclypse Muscaria I've chosen not to breed, but I have nephews and I'm looking forward to the time when their parents - who are both on the technophobe side - let them have computers so I can corrupt them with videogames and fully draw them onto the dark side. Looking forward to play with them online as well
Their parents refuse to get them a computer / console arguing they want their kids to go out and do sports and yada yada - which is perfectly reasonable and which they do - but otoh I also often see them sitting motionless in their living room hypnotized watching some sort of Disney bullsh*t or another, which comes across as pretty mind-rotting if you ask me, and a completely passive form entertainment.
I do think all that time they spend mindlessly absorbing TV would be much better employed playing games, using their minds and exercising their creativity, ingenuity and imagination.
Ofc physical activity is important to a child as well, but it's a matter of balance, not a false either/or dichotomy between playing outside or videogames.
As to the OP, sorry to hear about that, it sucks.
Don't you really mean women have chosen not to breed with you?

This thread is like just another argument about carebears, high sec, low sec, etc.
Where I was raised, anything that was not nailed down, or surrounded by guard dogs, or looked like garbage, was stolen. We were always stashing game consoles under dirty laundry, trash, or putting things in containers that looked like something else. Yes we hid things in books too, because the sort who breaks into houses is afraid of books.
Guns were hidden in walls or the floor, if not carried 24/7.
The only other way to have any security was to have a household where there was always somebody home, no matter what. Otherwise, your stuff was gone.
Same went for your car. Leave anything in there that a crackhead could sell for a "hit", it was gone.
The kid got the best Christmas present of all: a valuable lesson.

You certainly can't expect that to happen everywhere - I would go psycho in this kind of place. Someone here tried to break in the house, they didn't succeed, but from this point, if the house is closed the insurance takes care of the loss.
