Hi,
With the learning sp I can finally fly dreads, however from past experiences I know carriers for example can't assign fighters in 0.4 or above. My question is thus wether or not siege mode works in highsec?
I don't want to train the skill up if it doesn't work here anyway.
Thanks

Edited by: Alara IonStorm on 15/12/2010 21:33:19 Dreadnaughs can not enter High Sec, the only Dreads and Carriers in High were the ones built before CCP realized what a bad idea it is to have Caps in High.
Even if you pay the tens of billions for one of the few High Sec Dreads they are novelty items that are not allowed to PVP. They also can not move from system to system, only jump to low or Null Sec.

Quite aware of all that.
But does siege mode work?

CCP actually made it illegal to buy or sell highsec capitals just recently, so the point is moot. It does however raise the question: why do you care? |

Like I said, I want to know if there's any point in training the skill. I really don't see how the point is moot. I'm not talking about trading it, I'm talking about using siege mode.

I beleive you can, but if you actually tried to use it for anything ccp would get angry and take the dread off you.

The point IS moot because you can't buy a dread in high sec. period. AND they are not allowed to PVP in high sec, so.. moot point. - - - - - - - - - -

Oh, of course no agression. But I can't see the harm in just sieging. It's not like I'll be able to shoot anything anyway. Not to mention I don't even think any rats can spawn so I won't gain any advantage from it what so ever. It's just eyecandy.
Originally by: Zora'e The point IS moot because you can't buy a dread in high sec. period. AND they are not allowed to PVP in high sec, so.. moot point.
Again, I'm not interested in buying. It's completly irrelevant. I'll stop replying to any more discussion of how I'd aquire more. Not interested and I doubt there's any realistic way.
Not only am I not allowed to pvp, I'm not allowed to pve in a way where the ship gives me any noticable advantage. I have no intention of doing either. As mentioned it'd be just for eyecandy. It's nothing but a question of game mechanics and possibly rules.
Originally by: Cambarus There is no point in training the skill. There is no legal way for you to GET a dreadnought in highsec, and because even on the off, off, OFF chance that you already own one, using it for pvp or for missions is also not allowed, so having siege mode active wouldn't benefit you in any way, also dreads are the only ships that can fit siege mods. The point is moot.
I have one. It is not reimbursed into place. It is not for sale or open for trade. I have no intention to pvp with it and afaik the system offers no pve content what so ever.

Obviously you should just petition yourself, its the generally accepted method of finding out if something is allowed/works or not.

Epic useless conversation is epic... yet useless... :D
"Hi, I'm just wondering if a Gold Magnate undocking from Jita 4-4 would survive the AOE DD of a Titan if I used RR from a Jovian Logistics cruiser?"
1) There was only ever 1 Gold Magnate, and it's gone now. 2) Titan's no longer fire an AOE DD. 3) Titan's can't get into high sec. 4) You can't fly Jovian ships.
"Yeah, but I just wanna know"

Except 1) There are dreads. 2) Dreads still use siege mode. 3) Dreads can stay in highsec. 4) You can fly Dreads.
Petition has been sent, was just hoping to get a switfter reply from someone who's been flying them longer than I.

Yes, there are Dreads... all over Low/Null sec. They use siege mode all the time, out there. The only Dread in high sec that I know of belongs to Chribba. He's been expressly told by CCP that if he ever uses it for anything other than eye candy, they'll digitally poof it out of high sec.
So... for the few people who may still have a high sec Dread, I doubt any of them have ever tried doing anything with them. Testing their limits runs too much of a risk of losing their bragging rights.

to the OP: people seem to read what you type but understand something else, or try to be clever by avoiding the point. I'd actually be interested to know the reply of the dev in your petition.
facts:
1- You can undock in a dread in some highsec system, provided you own one at the moment in said station/system. 2- You can possibly train the skill and presumably equip the module on your ship when docked. 3- If you undock and click siege, here are the possible outcomes: - game crashes - it sieges - it does not siege and possibly you get a message warning you that it is not possible
the question being asked is which of these outcomes is true, not "is it morally right to ask the question?" -Tex |

I would be surprised if it didn't work. The reason is CCP would have to program in an extra line of code saying: "If highsec = true, siegable = false" or something like that. CCP wouldn't do that for the handful of dreads still there. But your question is is it worth training. From a practical standpoint it's a great skill to have, but not if you never leave high sec.
Seriously, if you just want to see a dread siege, buy one in low sec, slap a siege mod on it, undock and siege. It is exceptionally unlikely that if you are in an empty system, anyone will show up and kill you in that 10 minute period. I have to agree that your question is moot. Not only is it moot, it's outright dumb.

Since you are asking worthless questions to devs can you ask this one.
If I somehow stayed in a ship when it docked inside a carrier what would happen if I attempted to warp while inside the hanger bay? ------- "Because the Dominix is the Chuck Norris of Eve!" |

FTFY.
That said, you are right, sieging up works very well and the skill is well worth the investment. Still want to make sure there's no rule against it though, even if I have a really hard time seeing what rule it would violate and why there's a rule against it.

I would honestly be impressed. Seeing how well jita runs right now with nowhere near enough ships in space I can't see the node handling the massive load from a suicide gank. That said, quite a worthy way to lose it.
