I'm currently training skills so I will be eventually able to fly a Legion. The question I have is what ship other than battleship/Marauders can one use to run level 4 missions ? I'm going to be stuck with cruiser and battle cruisers for many months still.

Edited by: Mavnas on 27/11/2010 05:47:56 The Imperial Navy Slicer can do some L4s slowly if you are careful about taking out webbers fast (most have shorter web range, than your pulses), stay away from missions with nos/neuts, and stay away from missions where stuff isn't weak to EM/Therm (so no Angels, Guristas, etc.).
Navy Omen does more DPS, but it can't really speed tank anywhere near as well, and until you have T2 guns, your range will actually be shorter than the Slicer with Scorch.
edit: Zealot should be able to do anything the Navy Omen does, but I don't have skills for that yet.

large energy turret 4 and amarr battleship 4 really shouldn't take "many months" to train. if you want something that isn't a bs I'd suggest a tengu or drake, the ishtar can work for afk running.

If you are bored and don't care about making ISK from your mission running grind, you could fly a Retribution.
Just train for the BS, your wallet will thank you.

So while waiting for Legion skills to train, you should fly a Tengu, which would take longer than the Legion or a Drake which has absolutely no skills in common with the Legion? Do you people think before posting or is Drake/Tengu the answer to every question anyone ever asks?

if you state you don't want to fly a battleship then yes.
while the legion isn't terribad it isn't something I'd want to fly into level 4 missions. and well tbh the whole sub battleship amarr lineup is pretty much lacking in the "what would chainsaw run level 4s with" category
and navy slicer... I mean seriously

Many of the sub-BS Amarr ships do considerably more DPS than a Drake. The problem is the tank and need for cap.
The Slicer, well, think of it this way. Whenever you open up the mission reports and are wondering if you can complete a mission, ignore totally every battleship in there. Ignore most of the cruisers. None of those ships can touch you unless you're webbed. The downside of course is that frigate DPS is anemic. So yeah, don't run L4s in a Slicer if you can fly something bigger. Do it a few times for the hell of it to show it can be done (also cherry pick the missions to be easy for your ship).

I used to use an Enyo for some lvl 4's. You'll need to know what missions are ok to run with a smaller ship and manage your aggro but it can be great fun especially with a small group.
I think it depends on how fast or slow you want to do them.

As poorly as it does everything else.
Seriously, it lacks a lot in the DPS department. It could tank them but its damage is so anemic you might not be able to break a BS tank and the range is horrible. ** Disclaimer: Author sometimes spell checks but is not responsible for sins of commission, omission, emission, transmission, or submission. You can break any* L4 BS tank as long as you do the right type of damage. As long as I stuck to BR/Sanshas there was no BS I couldn't kill in the Slicer given enough time orbiting and shooting. (And yes, some took whole minutes, which is why I wouldn't recommend the Slicer for anything other than the lulz.) Based on EFT, it looks like the Sacrilege does 2-3x the DPS of the Slicer. The main concern would be if you don't have good missile and/or HAC skills your DPS could suck.
Also wow, playing around with the Sac in EFT. I really wish it had more lows so it could fit a decent tank and BCS.
* Some special named BSes might have crazy tanks.

So does eeryone else who flies them. Somehow when designing the Khanid ships CCP forgot that they balanced missiles around having 4 low slots to throw BCUs into. ** Disclaimer: Author sometimes spell checks but is not responsible for sins of commission, omission, emission, transmission, or submission. I tried that too. It just seems no matter what I do, the Sac comes out behind the Zealot in both DPS and tank. That seems wrong.
