Would you consider someone a veteran just because of how long they have played eve?
Or what they have accomplished?
Their KB efficiency?
The amount of isk they've made?
If they complain about how CCP is too easy on noobs nowadays?
I need to know if I'm a vet so I can go and complain about everything new that helps noobs. (I began in 2007-04-02)

You're considered a veteran when you can successfully dual tank your ship.

A veteran (from Latin vetus, meaning "old") is a person who has had long service or experience in a particular occupation or field... so I would interpret a Veteran of Eve to be someone who has played for a long time maybe over 6 years or maybe since beta, without breaks and has lived many of the possible lives available in eve...he/she knows all the rules and complicated mechanics of the game.

You become a real EVE player when you start hating CCP. You become an experienced player when you know the reasons for the hate. You become a veteran when you remember the events and changes that lead to those reasons.

You are not a vet until you are bitter. This can take as little as six months or even sooner depending on what expansion you started with.

Well in that case... *starts complai... oh wait I actually like the changes causing the current threadnoughts.
ANYHOW. A Veteran (short: vet, or in the case of EVE often bitter-vet) is a person who played this game for several years and has experienced it in many different ways (no running level 3 and level 4 missions are not different enough). This person also has played the game long enough to believe he owns the game (at least partially) and starts complaining about every single bit of change if there is only the slightest change that newer players or players that just begin playing EVE have some advantage over you compared to the time when he was in a similar situation when he played the game.
In the current debat you can usually figure out those "bitter-vets" by glancing over there posts and looking for keywords like "eve is dying", "dumbing down eve", "omg m0ar wow-kiddies".
PS: Don't be such a guy. I currently reached a point were I prefer interacting with said "wow-kiddies" / "wow-morrons" who migrated to EVE since I'm getting all tired of the "bitter-vet-whining". It's like arguing with labradoodles ----------------------------- OMG THE SKY IS FALLING! Contract me all your stuff so I can save it! |

This is pretty much right on, also another tell-tale sign is that you maintain your EVE account only so that you can post on the forums but you don't actually log into the game anymore except to set yet another skill to train for the next 40 days. Though that may fall into the "bitter vet" category.

You can call yourself a veteran when you have been to iceland and EVE Online Fanfest. Everyone else are N00bs.
If you want to join the cool league though you need first to buy a limited poster for 10.000 isk (i think..)at the fanfest, and then run around chasing devs to have them sign it!
