I was just taking a peek at the T2 short range hybrid changes. Not sure if these are final or not but they sure dont seem to go very far in making Javelin and Voice much more attractive to use. Example: Javelin. Only change is removing the -10% Max velocity Penalty. It keeps the crippling 0.75x tracking penalty.
Void. Only change is Tracking multiplier improved from 0.5x to 0.75x It still keeps it's horrific 0.5x falloff modifier (there is no such drawback on T2 or faction)
I realize these may just be "baby steps" in the right direction but, come on, these changes will probably not have anyone using T2 hybrid ammo over T1 or Faction.
Wish list (in addition to already proposed changes): For both Javelin and Void, remove the dang tracking penalty. That is what mostly cripples T2 hybrid ammo and I do not believe it would make it "overpowered" as faction still outperforms T2 hybrid. But, this would give us an intermediate option.

Agreed. Anything with a tracking penalty is useless to hybrids. Tracking is where we're hurting already. Why bother with ammo that hits you where it hurts the most when faction doesn't hurt you at all?

Edited by: chatgris on 22/11/2010 17:53:53 Hybrids as a whole are broken - this is just a general change to t2 ammo.
Give it another year or two, CCP will probably get around to fixing hybrids in general, and then the ammo will work.
In the meantime - train another race. Amarr/minmatar/(caldari missile boats) are all quite well balanced now.

You forgot that Void also has better optimal. I know I will be using it |

Meh. Void will have it's uses in certain situations, but for the most part faction AM will still be the best choice. +5% damage and an extra 2km optimal (and that's with large neutrons) at the cost of 25% effective range hardly seems like a good idea for general use.
With the changes, Null will get far more use than Void. But overall, still doesn't do enough to address the fail that is hybrids and Gallente.

Void:
Tracking penalty of 25% even to frigates is useless. Losing your Taranis to a Rifter just because your tracking not being able to hit even orbitting slowly at optimal is fail.
You really should just remove the tracking penalty and give it a bigger cap use penalty or something. Fall off penalty would be fine if you know, it could actually hit stuff at optimal, though often this is due to crap blaster tracking which could probably use an across the board boost (been that way since 90/90 web changes nerfed blaster combat).
Javelin: Tracking penalty on close range rails is ******ed. On my 250mm rail Eagle with optimal scripts and Locus coordinators I get a 30km optimal using Javelin, but unfortunately can only maybe hit a stationary freighter some of the time. I'd be better fitting pulse lasers, so what is the point of this ammo?

Sad to say I've shelved almost all of my Gallente ships. The ammo changes for Hybrids are mostly pointless, and Hybrids themselves are not very efficient to use anymore. I can get better performance out of one of the other races of ships. Even drone ships are becoming obsolete, as Sleepers eat them for lunch (especially with garlic) and early reports are indicating that Sansha Incursions will be just as bad.

This definately. Especially the part about the eagle SOMETIMES hitting a freighter. Railguns are almost completely worthless unless you're sniping at 200k+ away, and even then large beam lasers are far superior. I began my pvp career flying gallente and now I fly amarr and minmatar 100% of the time. I haven't touched a gallente ship in... well, i guess it's a year or so now. Ideally I should be using all four races equally, as I've got them all trained up to the same state.
Oh yeah I fail and accidentally did Report instead of quote.. sorry about that.

t2 ammo changes are useless while hybrid weapon is broken.

Conflag had its tracking penalty removed entirely according to the T2 ammo update, yet Javelin and Void still have tracking penalties. It doesn't take a genius to see that ANY tracking nerf on a short range ammo type makes said ammo useless. Not only do hybrids have terrible tracking, but tracking is most important in SHORT RANGE. What part of 2 + 2 does CCP not understand?
