Dear CCP Sreegs,
In your dev blog you discuss how keyloggers can be used to hack accounts. Would a simple solution not be to do like online banks do and have a pin number from which we are asked for 2 random digits in drop-down-box-form each time we login? This could either be instead of or as well as a password.
Drop-down boxes are an easy way to avoid keyloggers detecting your password. Plus it avoids anybody who happens to be near-by and looking over your shoulder as you type from getting the whole password, merely two characters of it.
I know it doesn't solve the whole problem. There are, as you point out, other ways of people getting your details. However anything that helps is a surely good thing, right? Plus it means you can cross a line off your list... ____ ~ Guild Alliance ~ |

A vague and pointless comment, thanks. Firstly, I never claimed to be an 'expert'. However, I'm fairly sure the banks employ people with more expertise than you posses and this system seems to work well enough for them.
If this is such a clueless idea and you're such an expert, why not enlighten me with some actual reasons for your dislike of the idea? Rather than just trolling? ____ ~ Guild Alliance ~ |

Well, I'd say a better security measure is what many banks around here use - a digital keyboard, you have to tap your password on the virtual keyboard on the screen with your mouse.
Although making you only put in 2 digits of your password would also work. Make the two combined XD

So long as this **** is optional.
It's hard enough remembering a password for each account, let alone counting which character to select from a dropdown.
I did at one stage have something like bwrcjr824kvygytpg88xqkqtj as a password for one of my accounts, now you want me to select what was the 9th and 22nd character from a dropdown for it? there is no way I could do that when drunk.... Maybe this is what you want, no drunk people on Eve loosing their BS/Carriers/SC/Titans because they though they could take on 100 ships.

or perhaps you should choose more memorable passwords?
Besides I'm not sure that something stopping me logging in while drunk is a very bad thing. ____ ~ Guild Alliance ~ |

Remembering the Password itself is the easy part, you learn via Rote Learning, The hard part is remembering which character is which number, without having to write it down and count it out/count it on fingers/toes/other(considering that the previously mentioned example password was 25 characters).

It basically comes down to a question of how much inconvienience you are prepared to put up with to help keep your stuff safe. In my case... quite a lot. I would certainly put up with an inability to login drunk as a payoff to preventing keyloggers stealing my password.
In my own case, in all the years I've been playing EVE and other online games, I've never yet (touch wood) had an account hacked. But then, I'm pretty paranoid about my passwords and careful about what I install. But then, not everybody is and judging from the dev blog I'd guess this is an issue that needs addressing. ____ ~ Guild Alliance ~ |
