Hey, I am a reletivly new player, especcially to PvP. I want to roll a new Gallente toon but have absolutely no idea what to train/fly. Please don't say fly Min, because I really don't want to. Any help? Just an average base for what to train/a link to a guide? Thanks

Minmatar - skirmish warfare, best ships in class until you hit BS level, and even there they aren't slouches. Amarr - weak until you hit t2 cruiser, BC and above, then they're awesome Caldari - Best BC in the game hands down (though CCP might be nerfing it), great BS lineup, a little weak in cruisers Gallente - Good t2 frigates, but the main use for gallente SP nowadays is to fly angel ships. Given CCP's cycles, in about a year they might get around to buffing.

Train for a Vexor. You will **** frigates and cruisers alike. Or you could train for a thorax and tbh you should because the rax is probably the best ship in the game - cheap, great damage and good ehp.

Not sure, but I think starting out these are good for starters.
Frigate class: Taranis T1 cruiser: Glass-cannon Thorax Assault Frig: Enyo or Ishkur Battlecruiser: Glass-cannon Brutix.
meh? Relax! I'm here to save the forums!!! |

Edited by: Bluejacket CT on 16/11/2010 12:23:40 Welcome to the brotherhood. Train drones and blasters and **** DPS like no tomorrow.
Start off with an Incursus, and shoot for a vexor at first, you'll figure it out. ~

I loled(fully maxed ex blaster pvper here). This is so 2006, where blaster pvp really meant something(something else than having crap range and terrible damage projection at point blank).
Minmatar is the best option if you like solo/small gang with very good gunships.
As posted a few posts above, T1 Amarr offers the most at BC and BS levels, even if the Navy Omen and Zealot are quite cool.
Caldari are more geared to gangs. Drake in particular however is also very good at solo and easy to skill into. Plus side they are very nice for PVE.
For Gallente, the Frigs are good(Ranis and Ishkur), above this you can do ok in drone ships(Vexor, Ishtar, Myrm, Domi). The blaster ships are pretty meh, to ineffective in solo/small gang and useless for other stuff(except RR BS where the are medicore).

The Gallente ships usually do their damage using 2 weapon types. They have ships in each class that lean more towards one or the other. They are blasters and drones.
Train gunnery and skills for light and medium drones. You want to get T2 small blasters and T2 light and medium drones as early on as possible. Also train up your gunnery support skills early on.
The gallente are usually armour tankers so mechanic skills are important.
However many blaster boats now fit shield tanks so that they can do heavy damage with a light tank.
This is obviously after all your learning skills.
I hope this helps.

If it's so 2006, why have you been flying blaster ships for the past 4 years?

Don't look down your nose at me and criticize me for flying similar ships to yours, you confused dribbler. ~

OP, you'll find a lot of people in the game like this, and don't let them discourage you. You can be a great pilot flying nearly any kind of ship, even things like blasters or railguns. Just because the elite of this game have hand-picked their favorite weapon systems doesn't mean you have to follow their lead, I know I don't, and I do pretty well. ~

Yup, this. Gallente noobs try to use blasters and leave because they can't fiure out the damn things. Later they think theyre pro by saying blasters suck. In truth, there are some pretty leet ways of making blasters work or closing into blaster range, and you may figuee it out some time.
Like I said, use a vexor or a thorax, learn the particulars of the one you choose and it'll feel like your space yatch after that and youll lose lots of them and have a great time.

If you mention insane DPS, then I think back of 2006, where the effect was vastly different, BS got around the HP a BC got now, a Mega went around 1400m/s and anything sub BS hit the fan against a Mega in under 30s. Funny as it is even during this times the domi was more lethal in many scenarios(pre Nos/Multispec nerf).
Actually blasters where my weapon of choice over a very long time. During this time they where also not this common(it was called nano age for a reason). However different than today, blaster ships where able to perfectly track stuff at point blank by reaching peak dps relative predictable, couldn't be immobilized at point blank by smaller ships(since they got face melted) and where even king in some scenarios where swift DPS was required to get the kill or avoid to get blobbed.
Since QR, it misses most of his features, while the speed nerf and the scram/web changes didn't affect other hulls this much, since they relay less on web range.
So in general if you start over and got the free choice there isn't much reasons to pick it. Even assuming blaster pvp gets changed to reassemble more of the old quality it got once, it is still more limited to solo/small gang than mini is and quite a bit more risky to fly, what isn't anybodies coup of tea.
Actually I miss the days where you went out in a blaster ship, knowing that within his limitations, it is the perfect ship for skilled solo pvp if you got the balls for it.

The only problem I have with blasters is the tracking, everything else can be made up for by flying your ship correctly. ~
