has anyone else noticed how bad the desyncing is becoming when being bumped by either other players or objects?
ive seen a good few players get badly desynced by bumping them repeatedly. Tbh its so bad and so easily done it should be considered an exploit.
please hurry up n fix the desync issue ccp.

Yep.
Been running a few sanctums and the wrecks keep popping into place 60km away from where the ship exploded.

Now that you mention it, wrecks appearing freaking miles from where the rat exploded has become more noticable in missions.

Happend to me too. I was in a Gila and I filed a bug report for this. Apparently CCP already knows about it and is working on it. But it might help them to give them more details. |

I've been ratting in 0.0 and local has been very low to maybe 4 people and I've experienced lag and this wreck issue. I assumed it was just 0.0 lag cause of low server resources but I suppose I may be wrong.

Actually yes it has seemed to be hapening more frequently. Happened to be three times on a roam yesterday when I jumped gates. I also seem to get stuck in Paala unable to jump out quite a lot, and get a ridiculous 15 minute undock timer sometimes. |

Edited by: TriadSte on 15/11/2010 11:02:19 Happens to me in every single C3 sleeper site. Also when i release my drones they will happen to be anything from 1000 meters upto 90 KILOMETERS behind me.
Ive filed 1 petition and 2 bug reports about these issues but alas low and behold, CCP have not got back to me at all on both counts.
As normal they're understandably super busy putting even more content onto something which currently is not running properly.
Ya know, the normal CCP way

18 months, amirite?
Just because CCP doesn't answer your calls doesn't mean that they didn't get the message. Also, just because you are affected by the bug doesn't mean that CCP is going to ignore them.
The last time we had desynch, CCP spent a LOONG LOOONNG time trying to figure out how to fix it.

Same here, first noticed wrecks appearing in slightly different place than explosion was, but also have had my drones attacking a target that was 90km out on my screen, but since drones could attack it i also fired on it despite being outside my range, and its wreck appeared at 36km distance.

Why can you not look back on the "old" version of the game when it was fine.
Look at this version of Tranq see what differs and hey presto a fix?
It is a stupid thing to have happening.

yes lets make it easyer everyone needs to have the same pc no laptop ect ect.. then ccp only has to program for one set of hardware , also the hardware must be config the same way.

o/ chiming on to post my story and bump for more discussion.
I lost a carrier because of desynch, overview showed me at 0m from docking-range the whole time, the kill-squad cynos in I click "dock" but apparently I am outside of docking range.
I talked to my gankers the next day, and apparently I had been bumped OVER 50KM with out me even seeing it and some of them also reported me as showing 0m from the undock still.
I showed them a screenshot of me lodged in the station and they kinda felt bad for me at that point.
I did petition but got the classic "Our logs show nothing abnormal." reply.
Now if CCP acknowledges this as an issue, where does that leave ship loss petitions that point to this bug?
I can also confirm the weird issues regarding ratting, I rat in a Vagabond (lol blasphemy) and I'm usually 1000m from the BS rats when they pop, but the wrecks appear like 10-15km away sometimes.
And lately I've had an issue with bounce-bookmarks, apparently a bookmark 300km away from a gate is not over 150km away... as you only get the "Approach" option.
I've heard that 400-500km bookmarks still work though.
And on an unrelated note:
The text-input for mails, petitions and bug reports are broken, too many line-breaks and it goes bat-sht bonkers. Pasting doesn't work either. (I'm sure everyone has noticed this.)

I would have thought desync to be a "minor" problem for a good programmer/expert. Considering how difficult it is to create patchs, additional content etc.

I hope you're basing your presumption on the difficulty of the task on actual knowledge of the inner workings of the system and not on a gut feeling and assumptions. Otherwise that would be bad

Oh silly me, I accidentally left the Desynchs = TRUE set in the EveBugs.py file. Thankfully Eve isn't a complex system with thousands upon thousands of lines of code written over the last decade.

I bet 100 ISK it's a floating point precision problem. ;-P
wikipedia blah on floating point accuracy iissues How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

oooooh, so THATS why they changed from 1500m to 2500m so they could have a bigger margin of error... Someone added an extra zero to the margin of error by accident?

How would a precision error cause the server and client simulations to diverge?
Actually if you want to watch precision errors in action just "look at" another ship while warping away (I don't remember exactly how to make the look stick, you might have to use the advanced camera) The points jittering around and model breaking up just before the camera snaps back to your own ship is a classic example of FP precision.

just wanted to confirm... desync is terrible now. 30km is a huge distance in PvP and the last desync "session" I had was that bad.

I am a window door and conservatory fabricator in the day and PC repair geek at night.
But in all seriousness to what I said and i still stand by this is that I really think having a game running in sync be quite a simple task. Im comparing this "simple" task to others I feel would be much more difficult.

Ya know that odd phenomenon when invoking a tractor beam? At first, the numbers in dicate the target is many times farther away than it is supposed to be. Then it clears and behaves normally. Is this related to the desync problem ?

Afaik there has never been a version without desyncs.
Which means that this is not likely to get fixed anytime soon. May be a design flaw.
