CCP recently announced a new ship class based upon the Primae that was given away earlier this year. This class, called the "Noctis" (very funny CCP), is to be a dedicated salvage vessel. This is a wonderful idea and I heartily approve. The Primae with the modifications that CCP has proposed would make a great platform for a dedicated salvage ship.
I would like to suggest that CCP go one step further and base a new class upon the Zephyr. The Zephyr is already a dedicated probe/scanner class and certain features of the ship make it very attractive for what I wish to propose.
I would like to see a ship that is capable of using specialized launchers and/or probes to be able to scan and localize ships employing stealth technology. This should have varying effectiveness depending upon signal ratio, signature, and skills. There should be additional skill requirements in order to use said launchers and probes.
I chose the Zephyr because it already has the required "special" launchers and for one more reason. It has a very small signature itself, making it hard to find, but once it is found it is very fragile, providing some balance for the ability to uncover cloaked ships.

Interesting idea. Altho it would not really take care of the afk cloakers as people would do just unscannable afk cloakers or even just unscannable ship without cloak.
I would prefer solution where cloaks burn fuel though.

You do know that this will just start an arms race between cloakers and the cloakfinders, right?
You make it so cloaks can't always hide you, and people will just start asking for some method of hiding from the cloak finding device, and then we'll be back where we started until you need a dedicated ship with all it's slots full of specialized stuff to find anyone!

I thought that was what I was just proposing? One single special purpose ship that had a CHANCE to uncover a stealth or even "unscannable" ship. No weapons, no shields, no armor, no ANYTHING else and fragile as hell. I did say that things like scan strength, signature and skills would still affect the outcome.
But AFK cloaked in an enemy system would be a thing of the past for sure....

So you're implying that someone would scan for a cloaker just for ****s and giggles?
But I like that you didn't just write "introduce a mechanic to probe cloakers" blatantly.
An AFK cloaker does nothing, if you're scared of cloakers, close your local chat. Or learn to use PVP ships, because you can actually rat in those.

stupid idea. have a max cycle time for non covert ops cloakers and a cool down timer of 3x as much as the cycle.
if cycle = 1 hour 3 hour cool down till next activation.
that fuel **** is a bull**** idea.

Well they do annoy people a bit as one has to pay attention a bit more than just glancing a local every once in a little while. As far as seriously disrupting the ability to make isk - in my experience they do not - you just plex in groups of 3-5 people instead of idling in one in a solo drake and bring along something that can kill small tackling stuff well enough, like (AML) cerberus or Nighthawk for example.
Or use stuff big enough that can shrug off the harassment and/or survive long enough for your corpmates pile on you if you happen to get in trouble - like carrier for example.

200 pilots in the system. One neutral cloaked. All 200 stay docked because they all are so afraid of this single god damn cloaked ship.

There are better mechanics then this...
An example is a high level upgrade, that allows 1 pulse per 24 hours that uncloaks ships...
That would be the most fair way to deal with it, but then again it does not need to be dealt with. ------- "Because the Dominix is the Chuck Norris of Eve!" |

Edited by: Seriously Bored on 08/11/2010 01:47:18 I kind of like the idea. The idea of using the Zephyr hull for some other kind of ship to be introduced into the game, that is. I can see both sides of the argument of the anticloaker role.
Also: where the heck is AFK Cloaker? He always makes a pseudo-appearance in these sorts of threads. Unless that's him in the corner...bah, nope...just a shadow.

The only good solution for AFK cloaker problem is implementing AFK timer wich logs out player after some time not doing anything. This will nerf AFK without nerfing cloaks |

It seems some people don't understand why people are afraid of a single "afk cloaker"... main reason would be covert cyno... and the fact they often are not afk. Depending on where they are from, even if your in a fleet, you risk getting 20 recon ships and stealth bombers on you... or more if your juicy enough... covert cyno works in cyno jammed systems
