Edited by: WMunny on 21/10/2010 11:57:57 Epic Mission Arc: The Sisters of Eve
As a new player (just a few days old) I had great trouble finding a way to kill Kritsan Parthus. After losing a couple of Cormorant's and further millions in repair bills I was losing hope. I had to turn to an old forum post for help.
The trouble was my weaponry. It seems that 7 x 75mm (or 125mm) cannons with Antimatter did little damage, whilst 5 x Light Ion Blaster with Antimatter did the trick. I still don't know why (there appears to be little help for novices for that kind of tactical/technical info).
For the battle: One of the main problems is being hit with the large blaster laser. No more than a few hits is enough to completely wipe out shields - another few for armour, then i's all over. The trouble is getting in close enough that he cannot lock/weapon not effective. However, getting in close means massive power drain.
Eventually I discovered the Small Nosferatu which definitely helped. Previously, I solely used the Capacity Booster, but I could never reload it fast enough to keep up with demands. The Nosferatu resolved that problem immediately by draining his power as he was draining mine. However, the booster was still used to keep the weapons loaded. Because he couldn't lock his blaster on to me, shield and armour were irrelevant.
Approach fast (Afterburner) Orbit at < 1000m. Activate the Nosferatu. Fire all Blasters. Reload the Capacitor Booster. Wait.

That's ofc one way to deal with that problem. Good players ask for help in local.

Well, I don't want to be handed success on a plate - else what's the point in doing the missions at all? I asked if there was a device which prevented power drain and was told "no such thing", then discovered the Nosferatu via the forums.
Many thanks to all those who have posted in the past. I hope this helps some in the future.

Congratulations on beating the arc. It's got some nasty bits for new guys, but you've learned a lot and tried out a lot of things. There are 2 weapons systems for each race. One is short range, high damage, good tracking and the other is long range, low damage, bad tracking. With hybrid weapons (blasters & railguns) the damage difference is very high between the two. I like your attitude with trying to figure it out on your own. I lost 30 Million isk when I was starting out trying dozens of fits and losing lots if ships trying to beat the L2 missions that it turns out is an abosolute bastard of a mission, but I did learn tons, especially what doesn't work

I needed help with the final part of the mission - capturing Dagan.
Many thanks to THE ROOF for the firepower and STEALTHIUS for the offer of help - both within seconds of asking!

Simply, Parthus is a heavy-DPS boss and Dagan is a heavy-defense boss. A number of missions on the epic arc are designed to get you used to different types of missions. Parthus obviously requires heavy tank or (relatively) extreme kiting, Dagan requires enough firepower that, as a new player, you're almost forced to ask for help (or wait till your skills train up to where you have a good cruiser/BC thing with lots of turrets/bays fit going).
Using eve-search to find older forum posts or asking specifically about weapon mechanics will get that covered for you pretty well. I could give you the whole schpiel for all the weapon types and factors, but I'd top the character limit and it sounds like you've already started looking them up.
Beyond forums, there's a giant-ass pdf fitting guide floating around somewhere, one from battleclinic, another called ISK, I think. ---
