I understand the excitement/draw of every other activity in EVE. Even hisec mining can be fun if joking on comms with your buds, or fighting off can flippers.
PI as it was originally described seemed cool [compete, cooperate with other players while harvesting planets]. In it released form, I can't make myself even try it. I don't see any draw. So brave PIers [PInauts?], tell me why PI is fun.

This.
I actually don't mind PI, takes up very little time once you've got your planets set up. Depending on where you've got your planets set up, you can make a lot of ISK and it can be left in the background whilst you spend your time doing other things.

In addition, I look forward to watching where CCP takes this. The move is bold and I look forward to hauling 123k m3 of mercs to a planet for a take over.

It's um... fun to draw little pictures with your extractors? I've got a gorilla wearing a headset... and a pretty good interpretation of the FSM.
I guess the most "fun" I get out of PI is on the indirect level.. less time hunting down and paying crazy prices for POS consumables, and more time out hunting stuff to make pretty light flashes out of. It also saves me time by allowing me to cheaply build my own repair paste, so I don't have to go find a station to repair at every time I manage to mash the wrong spot on my gun trigger.
I do understand the OP's point.. PI ended up being more "useful tool" than a Farmville-esque subgame. *ponders raising cowprint beetles for fun and competition*

A guy I know in game made a billion last month from it. He does it pretty often tho, 5 hours intervals and all.
Persoanlly I can not stand the 5 hours or even daily shceduled clickings.
Are my planet side lackys stupid or something? Why can't I tell them to extract a resource until its empty? And not bother me with micro management ;) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think you just need to learn how to do it to maximize your profits, I know a handfull of people that make 300 mil+ a week

I know, right?
Following a schedule on my colonies would fall under the "so easy, a cave man could do it".
Mine shiney material. Pass shiney material to Big Room with picture of Cool Rockets on the door. Drink 6-pack Quafe Ultra and grunt at the wife. Do Again in 5 hours.

It isn't. The initial idea was interesting and fun, but the reality wasn't either. It might turn in to an actual minigame in Incursion with the usability alterations. The idea of the minigame still isn't that interesting, but it might turn out to be quite fu...err, well at least it will propably be better than what we currently have.

On a more modest scale, one of out corpies has five high-sec planets (I think) going, and those planets keep our tower not only completely stocked with trade goods but also produce enough left-over materials to pay for the ice product fuels five times overà
àfor a couple of minutes worth of clicking a day. So add a ² to those "thousands of isk" and you're at least in a ballpark order of magnitude of the income from a rather pitiful setup. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Other then making isk with it there isn't really any reason i would try it.
I tried PI on the test server, and i got bored with it after an hour or so. From then i knew i would never even try it on the tranquility unless the isk was really worth it.
But since i make more money spending time with other things i don't bother with PI.

It is fun knowing I'm raping a planet's natural resources, stockpiling crap, selling crap all BEFORE dust ruins it with crappy console players that mess with my profits/hoarding.

I like PI because it's a challenge managing the logistics connections between multiple planets so I can end up with the finished products I want with a minimum of wasted time.
If you did not like word problems in school, PI will probably not be a lot of fun for you. --Vel

I've been doing PI and tracking my income for 3 months now, I'm working on my 4th.
Month 1 I made 560 mil.
I re-worked a couple planets and trained up my scanning a bit better.
Month 2 I made 1.2 bil.
I found more efficient ways to setup my planets and to do higher productivity.
Month 3 I made 1.7 bil.

I would do PI if the slowest cycle autorepeated. If I wanted to micromanage something, I would moon mine. At least I only have to check that once every two weeks.

They should have scrapped it and made it a proper mini game, like Simcity (not)in space.
Should have split the planets up into regions too, you develope one region, purchase/expand into the next. Planet fills up > people want more > conflict > DUST 514.
TBH though i don't think there's going to be much fighting the current way it's set out, not enough for a few thousand console kiddies to be content with anyway. ------
