I havent seen one flying since i started playing.
Well not just the bhalgorn but ashimmu and the cruor.
I mean why fly an ashimmu if there is a curse?

The bhaalgorn is a popular pvp ship but it's held back by the high price (which is good imho). It doesn't pack much punch (thus making it crap in pve) but with a rapier style webbing bonus combined with a neut amount bonus, it's very deadly in the right hands. The ashimmu is also pretty popular. The reason for that is once again the webbing bonus. Though the web only has standard range, that boost to 90% speed reduction instead of only 60% makes a very big difference. I mostly see them camping stations/gates as a tackler for larger ships. The cruor is a disaster though. I see them occasionally but by most accounts, they are complete crap.
Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

They are pricey, but they are very very good at what they do. I fail to see how 800DPS with triple bonused heavy neuts double webbed at 18+km is low powered?
The Ash looks good on paper, but it is more akin to the pilgrim then the Curse. The Curse has lots of range compared to the Ash. As a close in 1v1 ship it is deadly, but it has major draw backs.
As far as PvE goes, look at it this way. It can fit a rack of Tach II's without an after thought (Better grid then a Paladin) Can web smaller stuff out to 20km (Better range then a paladin) and can fit 3 heat sinks and tank 700+ DPS with a good reaper. Put some NOS in the other highs to help with cap and you have a ship that delivers a 5000 hit Alpha out to 35km and tops out around 900dps.

The Bhaalgorn can neut capital ships in a relatively quick amount of time while also fending off support ships. In an anti-cap fleet it is incredibly useful, and ofc for general PvP it's nothing to scoff at either. I haven't actually flow one, mind you, this is just what I've been told by those who do.
The Ashimmu I do own and fly, and it's a great ship. While it's true that the Curse will outperform it in a lot of ways (mainly range), that doesn't make it a bad ship. Properly fit and flown, it's a great solo boat so long as you follow the universal rules of soloing. Pick your targets, and be ready to GTFO at a moment's notice. It also does okay in small gangs.
The Cruor is the (second?) most expensive faction frig, and though I'm not sure why this is, I'd still like to buy one at some point. People often look down on it, due to size problems. It's got the same thing going on as the Succubus, far as I can tell. Problems that don't really come to mind in larger ships become painfully obvious in the frigate. Here, the problem seems to be MWD's eat too much cap to be useful on a fully neuting or even nos/2x neut setup. But with it's webifier bonuses, this is easily balanced out. These same web bonuses, along with properly cycled neuts, also give it the lovely ability to kill Dramiels if flown intelligently. And to me, that makes it worth it right there.

I have used my Bhaalgorn for some fun Level 4 blitzing. It does very nice DPS at mission ranges and the 18km faction webs and 30km Nos are just gravy to a fun blitzing ship. It also looks great.
The Bhaalgorn is also very nice for PvP, if you have the balls/isk to fly it.
I have an Ashimmu, but I have never flown it. --- This doesn't even seem to be a regular case of rats fleeing the sinking ship. Seems more like the rats are on fire, the ship is on fire, and the sea is full of drunk Russians. - Jacob Etienne |

they were used pretty heavily during the last alliance tourny. a commentator commented on that, and the price shot up to a bit over a bil each, they dropped back down to 750-800m
a very nice pvp boat, just expensive and often primary

Ashimmu is great heavy tackler, and Bhaalgorn eats shiny stuff like no tomorrow, because nothing likes having no cap for even hardeners, especially active tanked c3 ships. Shield tanks are rendered super squishy to the lasers, which is good because no one likes a drake/tengu/nighthawk kill to just drag on. |

Use all three and love them. Range on the web can be a pain especially on the Cruor as fitting a MWD leads to quite a few compromises, so deadspace AB is the way to go IMHO.
The Ashimmu is a lovely ship to fly and at 10km range seriously eats almost anything except possibly Cynabals (not killed one yet), ~90% web at 10km plus scram Heavy Pulses AND bonused Neuts. Everything gels nicely with optimals on medium neuts, web, scram, and pulses at the same level.
The Bhaalgorn is a hilarious bait ship for running missions in too... PvP fitted can easily do most Level 4s due to the 4-5000 Alpha with Tachyons... |

Edited by: Gunner Cid on 08/10/2010 13:54:47 Yes, the Bhaalgorn is quite useful. It can take a good deal of punishment while also adding great utility that can often turn the swing of a fight.
No range bonus for the sub BS variants hurts them
My opinion on it

I use one for a mission ship now and then, works really well actually, and while their IS better ships, it's sometimes nice to be different.
