I was playing around with fittings and started to notice that faction weapons do less damage than T2. Not because they actually have lower stats but rather because they are not effected by the Large (turret) Specialization. (I'd imagine missles are the same) So this made me wonder... what's the point in having them. At first I thought it might be so lower skilled players have access... this is kinda moot because it's short lived and seems like a waste. Why not make it to where all turrets are effected by this skill... not just ones that require it?

It's an often noticed problem. I've never used a faction gun. By the time I had enough isk/LP to even think about fitting them, I'd long since trained the t2 version. Aside from doing less damage, they also can't use t2 ammo. They are worthless faction mods just like faction armor plates (they are inferior to RT).
Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

Well, faction guns (for example RF ones) have some tangible advantage in fitting stats over t2.

Faction guns are an isk sink for when you have fitting problems.

Missiles are a different story. Faction just gives higher ROF without having to learn T2 missiles. Damage not affected in the sence of +x.yz damage mod on faction guns. Just get missiles out faster. If it takes 5 salvos to kill something....will still take 5 salvos. It will just be quicker.

Yeh I've never really been able to work out why the specialization skills don't apply to anything but t2. I mean... large blaster specialization would logically make you a better operator of large blasters... yet you can only apply this hard won knowledge to t2 guns.
