I'm really not sure if I should invest in a Mackinaw for ice mining if I already have a hulk. Which one will mine quicker or a larger amount?

Mackinaw.
You can ask such simple questions on the in-game help channel, too. --

Only get a Mackinaw if you plan to harvest a lot of ice. It is the king of ice harvesting.
Hulk with T2 ice harvesters: * 3% reduction Ice Harvester duration per level of Exhumers * 5% reduction per level of Ice Harvesting
cycle time = 500 * (1 - 5 * 0.03) * (1 - 5 * 0.05) = 318.75 seconds
318.75 seconds / 3 ice = 106.25 seconds per ice (33.88 ice per hour)
Mackinaw with T2 ice harvesters: * 25% penalty to ice harvester duration * 5% reduction Ice Harvester duration per level of Exhumers * 5% reduction per level of Ice Harvesting * 100% bonus Ice Harvester yield
cycle time = 500 * 1.25 * (1 - 5 * 0.05) * (1 - 5 * 0.05) = 351.5625 seconds
351.5625 seconds / 4 ice = 87.890625 seconds per ice (40.96 ice per hour)
With ice harvester upgrades you of course get more on both ships.

Add in an Orca with an alt giving bonuses and you can get about (46 ?) blocks per hour with the Mac, plus be able to store 170+ blocks before making a trip to the station.

Thanks, I had someone trying to tell me the Hulk could out mine the Mackinaw and I was almost positive it couldn't.

you have to have exhumers 5 to have the same cycle as a hulk because of the macks increased cycle time of 25% that decreases per 5% per lvl of exhumers skill, i just perfer my hulk as it can hold 17k so thats afk on a rock for 5 cycles

Hulk for more afk type mining. Can go about 20min before having to dock up or empty ice into a can.
Mack for atk, produces more ice but you have to pay slightly more attention.

The T2 Exhumers really are self explanatory.
Skiff = Merc mining ONLY Mack = Ice mining ONLY Hulk = Everything else -

The Hulk gets 3 ice per cycle, the Mackinaw 4, so 3/4 = 75% for the Hulk (25% less ice).
Even with the penalty, the Mackinaw gets a 5% Exhumers bonus vs. 3% for the Hulk.
At any skill level, the Mackinaw will harvest more ice than a Hulk.
I fit my Mackinaws for 3 cycles = 12 ice. That's 20 minutes to fill with Exhumers 3 and T2 harvesters.

I do have Exhumers 5....I was just trying to figure out of the investment of a Mackinaw would be worth it.

Then I guess it boils down to how much you need and how fast you need it. If you don't need a lot, and aren't in a hurry, you could stick with the Hulk. Save you buying a second ship.
But, if you need a lot of ice in a shorter time frame, you should probably get the Mac. Depending again on how much you plan on harvesting and over what period, it will be worth the price (eventually). Awhile ago I was grinding standings with a couple toons. The others were ice mining. By the time I had my standings where I wanted them, I had also added just over 10,000 blocks of ice to my stash. Basically enough to fuel my POS for about 6 months.

That brings up another question, how do I grind standings with a mining character...the toon has no real combat skills?

Some agents give out more non-combat type missions than other agents.
Less than 10% combat missions: Archives, Production, Accounting
Less than 20% combat missions: Manufacturing, Storage
Less than 30% combat missions: Distribution, Financial, Mining

It depends... if I am semi afk then I'll use a Hulk (cargo expanders and rigs).
If I am in a fleet with an Orca and gunning for a targetted amount of ice etc, then a Mackinaw (mining mods etc).

What I do is have the miner draw the missions, then my mission runner(s) do the missions while the miner salvages (and turns the mission in of course).
Just remember to set your mission reward preference to keep the rewards for "yourself". That way your mining toon gets all the standings increases.
Other option is, just before you turn in the mission, kick your other fleet members out, then invite them back when you go to do the next mission. Pain in the butt, and if you forget, then they share in the standings increase(s).
Some missions the miner should be able to do solo, depending on the agent/corporation/mission (i.e. the gas mining or "trade" missions), but they don't earn as much as the combat missions of course (but still count towards those all important storyline missions).

Well there is an exploration mission tutorial you should do. It can be found on the neocom under help with the rest of the tutorials. Press F12 then click on the Tutorials tab.
