as given in the Incursion press release:
"Further improvements include... a Sansha Mothership, Fighterbomber..."

You must not have been following the dev blogs or news articles that much.
The Sansha Mothership is part of why the next expansion is named so. Sansha will be making large scale incursions in to Empire space in an effort to abduct civilians off planets, for who knows what. It becomes up to us Capsuleers to put an end to their incursion by working our way through the Sansha fleet before attacking the mothership directly. After that is all done and over with, there's a chance for someone to end up walking away with a BPC for the mothership that everyone worked to destroy.
Of course all that is just how I think it will be, based on the devblogs I've read.

I think the carnage after the incursion when everyone scrambles for the BPCs will be much more interesting and bloody than the actual incursion itself.

I think we're miscommunicating here
my point is that CCP has been painstakingly trying to change the playerbase's perception of the ship class and regard them as supercarriers ever since the great rebalance of capitals, but it appears that they've never fully convinced themselves in the first place
you meant to say that someone is going to walk away with a BPC for the supercarrier, right? ˄ ______________ ˄

The mothership is being designed as a whole new ship class, above that of the current supercarriers. Not going to go dig up the post buts that's pretty much what was said about them.

I don't know how painstakingly they've been doing it, but that's what I gathered by reading the release as well. I guarantee you that the guy who wrote that press release didn't come up with the naming conventions.

I remember reading that they were working on Motherships as a class of their own, but not that they're above supercarriers. SCs are moon-sized pwnmobiles as it is, I don't think this game could handle super-supercarriers.

If you actually bothered to read up on the namechange from 'mothership' to supercarrier that the Nyx, Hel, Aeon and Wyvern have gone through you'd know CCP took this decision because they felt the designation super-carrier was better suited, and the SC's didn't turn out to be the 'motherships' they hoped them to be. However as SC's were originally intended to be actual 'motherships', but failed at fulfilling that 'role' that CCP came up with for them, another reason CCP renamed them to super-carriers was to free up the 'mothership' name again for something they could design later on that would fit their expectations and intentions better..
And NOW we are going to find out what they've come up with.. oh joyous day.
PS. logic dictates these 'motherships' will probably not resemble carriers or super-carriers. They renamed the old moms to super-carriers because that's really what they were.. bigger brothers to their carrier counterparts. So I reckon we're going to be looking at a new sort of super-capital that will stand on its own compared to SC's and titans.. god knows what sort of special feature(s) these new 'motherships' are going to have.

If CCP stays true to the chronicles in regards to the motherships, they're going to be some pretty tough ships to take out.

I did bother, but thanks for the recap. It'll be good for discussion in the thread.

This is what makes me think that someone screwed up the press release. The fact that they're introducing a Sansha branded Fighter-Bomber at the same time strongly indicates that the Sansha ship they're introducing will be using them. (It isn't proof, but it feels like a safe logical jump.)
If a new class of motherships can field Fighter Bombers like supercarriers can, and can fill a supercarrier's role as well as doing something else desirable, we're in store for some massive supercap power creep.
If it flies around spewing fighter bombers and doesn't have some nifty new role, I think it's safe to call it a supercarrier regardless of what the press release says.
Of course it's all speculation at this point, I just hope something stupid doesn't happen.

considering I don't think there has been anything beyond that little blurb said by ccp anything else is just speculation by the player base.

That totally depends on how they can use them. For example, if they can use fighter bombers but do not get a bonus to how many they can launch, they'll only do a quarter of the dps a SC could.

just like what comes to my mind hehe.. there will be huge fight for if that bpc goin to drop from "sansha ms" i even bet some ppl will shoot to wreck p:
while talking with a corpie he showed few screenies of "new" "sansha"fighter bomber and "could be" sansha carrier (it was a screenie from a model program which can export eve models to 3dmax or maya (tree somethign cant remember exact name..) so in this expansion we will be seen "true" sansha "carriers" (it was not that big for calling a ms) not some colored archons if ccp keep their word (they usualy not good on this but.. well we can hope..) new "MS" should be Titan kind of big.. and lots of features..
well i'm excited and realy lookking forward to "watch" new cgi video of this expansion.. thats all.. i dont realy care much rest of the pve "feature"

If you liked the T2 BPO lottery, you're going to love the seeding of these sansha carrier/mothership/supercarrier/chuckwagon BPCs.
Hundreds of people fighting in an incursion and after it's over one of them randomly gets awarded a BPC worth at least tens of billions of isk and probably hundreds? Or the person who contributed the most gets it; good luck spending a SOLID WEEK at your computer if you want a shred of hope to win it. Or maybe they'll drop it from a can out of the mothership wreck; i'll just go get my snakes, 5 overdrives on, and cloak on a vaga and wait for everyone else to do the hard work.
There is a real and glaring problem with this whole thing; it is basically impossible to distribute that BPC that won't either be totally arbitrary or a handout reward to the worst characteristics of a WoW play style.

It will drop, I'll scoop it in my Stilly and get popped by a Taranis, who will grab it from my wreck and get popped by a Dramiel, who will also drop it and then someone will turn on their smartbombs and the wreck will be destroyed.

This is why I love EVE. I'm absolutely giddy for the forum rage threadnoughts over "omg u stole/popped my sansha bpc!"
