I've been on a bit of a FPS binge lately, and I need some suggestions for a decent Sniper-type shooter for PC. Ideally something like Alpha Protocol or Rainbow Six, getting to pick your equipment and how you tackle your mission. I've playing Sniper: Ghost Warrior and its decent, but not quite suiting what I'm looking for. The mechanics are nice, but the missions are getting frustrating.
Any suggestions would be greatly helpful. -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is born right handed, only the great over come it. |

stealth is rarely done well in fps games.. and uh, i honestly cant think of any good sniper based fps out there.
Although i suppose you could play something like ghost recon (old name nowadays granted >.> ) as a sniper role... but its less singleperson oriented and more team.

If you looking for a console sniper game, i cant help you. if you are into the MMOFPS games like me, i reccomend Combat Arms. you can download it off the internet and play for free. you can spend realy money for upgraded or permanent special weapons. you spend game points to "rent" weapons for a period of time. its very sniper friendly imho. i've been sniping online in fps since Battlefield: 1942, which if you were around when that came out, you can get a feeling of how long i have been sniping. a work buddy of mine and i spent $30 US on one of the game cards you can buy in varios places for the game designer (they have mutiple MMO titles of different genres.). we spend the $30 on a PERMANENT .50 cal sniper rifle which features a double zoom ability. its really nice when you have to be right on for those precise shots. he and i alone can pin down the other team on a 8v8 match with ease using the. .50 cals. thats the only game i have ever played that can really fullfil my sniping fix when i need it.

Alpha Protocol would be a horrible choice.
While it has nice story and excellent RPG elements the actual 'combat' system is severely borked and it does not deserve the name 'FPS' as gun handling, accuracy, damage and aiming is simply too broken to be considered a 'skill' game.
The best Tactical (sniping) shooting game that I've ever played is America's Army. It features everything from selecting loadout for missions, accurate and reliable guns, proper aiming, accuracy and damage and on top of that excellent teamwork/tactics.
I don't know whether AA still has an active/live community and/or wether servers are still up, but I can guarantee that it's the most tactical fun PROPER FPS I've ever played.
(in case of arcade (multiplayer) FPS's that title is hold by UT2004, RTCW/ET and AVP2) __________________________________________________

Sniper: Ghost Warrior
You can get it off Steam and it is really good despite having some sub-par graphics. Signature locked for editing a moderator's warning. Zymurgist |

ArmA 2 and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising both have some good sniping in them, though they're not inherently sniper based.

Best shooter out atm is Bad company 2! There you got a recon class and sniper weapons.
Iv only played the multiplayer so i dont know about the singelplayer campaign, if its a lot of sniping or not.
BC2 is team based pvp, and usually the team with the most snipers is losing. So expect some rage and team killing if you don't do your job well. (recon is by far the hardest class to master)

Project reality mod for BF2 have good sniping possibilities.
It's multiplayer and teamwork heavy though, if you just want some single player fun PR is not worth it.

Thought of this straight away aswell. Crysis (and Warhead) are a lot of fun, and while not focused on sniping they still allow you to do that for much of the game. Worth checking out.
Any Battlefield game is also a good pick. As for Bad Company 2 however, prepare to be insulted a lot if you hang back if you're on the attacking team - though medium to close range sniping can be very effective and fun.
