 For those who didn't already know, Goonswarm has a scam where they invite new players to join their Corporation/alliance but require a "security deposit" that will be returned to the player within a certain period of time. Upon receipt of the deposit, they offer to move ships and assets from where ever you are now to what will be your new home in their space. Then they seize control of the assets by accepting the contracts and direct you to a website that tells you you have just been scammed -- https://auth.goonfleet.com/newbies/ . I know because as a newer player who was looking to move from lowsec into 0.0 I was a victim of this scam tonight. I'm sure this post will inspire lots of comments calling me an idiot, etc. Thanks for the helpful remarks in advance, but I thought it was important to get this out there and make sure everyone knew about it.
Thankfully I'm new enough that my assets weren't any big deal. All told I probably lost about 600 million, which I can easily replace with a plex. Others might not be so fortunate. I realized I was taking a great risk, but I did so anyway because I was eager to move into a 0.0 alliance. I'm not surprised Goonswarm has failed in the past and is now looked upon as kind of an afterthought amongst the real power players in Eve.

How many times do I have to tell you people? Goonwaffe is the most legitimate organization in Eve. Making threads like this where you try to allude to some imaginary 'scam' only serve as trying to inflict a dent to their polished and flawless reputation as recruiters.

There are a couple other Alliances in the NC doing now as well.
Off the top of my head, the new Geminate pets 'dem0n hunters' are I think one more in Pure Blind.

Never, evrer, ever give anyone your isk unless your buying something of them. Through contracts. Or market.
Think about it, if they are worried about spies so bad they need a security deposit why are they recruiting? It's not like it would stop a hostile alliance getting a spy in anyway even if It was legit.
I believe that goonwaffe has tried this scam twice on me personally (hell, messing with goon recruiters is fun) and it has been around for a looooooong time(which by the way is why the cool kids are descending on this thread)

Op,have you ever considered that they do a favour in scamming people this way?
I mean imagine if you were accepted and then you had to be left homeless like what it happened in Delve.
Its awesome though that Goons attempt to grief people when it was them some months ago that provided one of the biggest "youcanhasmystufsigobuWOW" threads when they lost Delve.
If you want to go in null or low sec i suggest you do it by yourself.Much safer and easier this way than joining in proven worthless render alliances.

I love how all the more experienced players in this game act like they were born with 65 million SP and an understanding of all the dynamics -- including scams -- out there.
Guess what? I'm a noob. I've been playing for about five months and almost all of that has been in the same corporation. That means there are a host of things I don't know -- such as the fact that alliances have "their own wiki." I have almost never read the forums [OMG!]. If a scam is a year old, I don't know about it, because I wasn't playing a year ago. HOWEVER, I do know what it's like to go out of the house, to have a career, and to have a girlfriend :-)
I knew I was taking a chance in this transaction, I said as much in my original post, but in terms of risk-reward, it was worth it to me. Even 1 billion in assets is less than 2 ETCs [yes, I mistakenly called them plexes. Can you imagine that individuals exist who refer to ETCs as plexes off the top of their head?]. That's $70. If that gets you excited, well, I'm not sure what your future prospects are like as a human being. But thanks to everyone for helping me keep this game in perspective. I'm off to buy my ETCs and move forward. I hope this helps some other newer players.

Often times the best trolls are ones where you give your target ample opportunity to find out what is really going on. It is a way of trolls to add a handycap for the less intelligent marks. Or to add difficulty to a troll for sport.
For example I can tell people that I am just pretending to be stupid and bad at eve. But the chances are... They are so trolled already that they will openly refuse to believe I have even the slightest amount of skill or talent.
This is like telling somebody who is standing on a cage trap that they should take this key from you. They refuse the key and then they trigger the trap only to realize later that the key freely offered to them was their only chance of escape. The key in this example could be an offer of friendship a token of information. whatever.

I run a goon reclamation service. I happen to be in tight with all their directors and can return your money and/or assets to you for a small processing fee I split with the director(s) in question.
For 10% of what was lost, I can recover 90% of your assets and/or money.
EVE mail me the specifics and payment and I'll get to work on it for you. 3-5 days is the usual processing time for reclamation orders.

Mogg Karaatu is obviously a very troubled individual and we should all take pity on him. In his honor I will be starting a "Mogg Karaatu Memorial Fund" with the proceeds going to the Sisters of Eve Home for the Mentally Unbalanced. I too have left my house - the sun is extremely bright and makes me unhappy.
I also have a career - it's how I afford Eve, along with my mortgage.
I did have a girlfriend - then I got married, and the husband really doesn't like it when I date other people. (Though between you and me, that hasn't really stopped me from at least looking over the available options).

I apologize greatly for this misconception. See, the Goonswarm Federation is a spin-off of our parent corporation, against our will. It is found they routinely scam new players to join their "Megacorporation" of several thousand alts.
Once again, I am sorry for your loss, and hope to be able to make things right.
For a standard investigation fee of 25 Million ISK, I can begin a full-scale audit into this scammer corporation, and disband it within a week.

yep i had one convo me too , we talked for an hour or so in the end he ram my api and full api wich i did change since then, also asked if there was any ships i needed moved i said id buy mine there or move them my self then said there was a new member discount on ships if i was looking to buy some, i said i was looking for a jump freighter if it was with a good price he came back with 3.7 bil i said i could buy them here for that and then he said o im sorry i read that wrong i ment 2.7 with the 20% new member discount it would be cheaper then that even and if i was interested i said yeah but i can wait if its that cheap ill juyst get it later from the corp when i can afford it better , he said ok well everything was approved apply with said code and posted a code in the box then said now one more thing there is a need of a security deposit of 1 billion isk that can be returned with in about 2 weeks its just to insure that your not going to pop a cap and roll out , i said well wtf is to stop me from waiting till i get my bill back then popping a cap? there is no diffrence but all in all at that point i was just mad that i had 7 interviews and closed them all to keep talking to this guy and in the end i didnt lost nothing but time but he was tring to scam me.. and if goon waffle alows there members to recruit /scam on there name then that just shows you the integrity of there alliance , i mean its not our fault there leaders jacked them of billions and closed up shop dont look to me to repay your dumb ass,

Hmmm, while I express my heartfelt condolences on your losses, I am more distressed by the fact that this will be the first of many of these posts. *sigh* The more things change, the more they stay the same, I suppose. I will say that the posts expressing any type of denial of said scam occurring only proves that many people have a promising future in politics. Considering that it was a regular occurence in previous inceptions of goons, one can only wonder why it even has a chance to work now...

Goonwaffe / Goonfleet is actually the Sheboygan chapter of the Man-Boy Love Association. They are their newest chapter and they are recruiting heavily. Take a look at this picture:

It is my understanding that the leaders of Goonswarm / Goonwaffe are currently on the run somewhere in South America. They rule their corporations with ruthless abandon and once made a nubile young man like myself pillow fight to the songs of Juice Newton.
