Anyone else having ship probing issues? Been using a tried and true pattern forever, now today, I can't seem to prob any ship down.
Is it just me?

I've had my share of probing troubles.
My skill level allows me to find stuff when my probe range is still at .5 or 1 AU, most of the time. Then there are days where I narrow down the probe range to .25 AU and can only get an 85% lock even when there are five probes overlapping the target.

The urge to troll that comment is quite strong

Some ships are fitted specificly to be unprobeable. Or perhaps your target see's the probes in space and bounces out ?

But but but... moar probes = gooder scanz, rite?
Probing - The Scanning Process
Quote: Once a solid hit has been achieved by four different probes at the same time...
Using 5 probes only allows for -more- deviation. The game bounces the signal off 4 -random- probes, and is in fact more likely to return multiple signals or the annoying red ring, instead of a stronger hit.
Use 4 probes per sig. No more, no less. -

Interesting I thought using 5 was a good idea, north/south/east/west with a 4 leaf clover, and a center one making 5. I was under the impression that the 5th helped prevent the duplicate return, as well as help keep a lock when the normal 4 had issues esp if something is above or below the plane of the system.
I often use 5 set to small around planets/gates with no overlap to remove returns from friendlies, or get a rough lock of hostiles so I understand why the skill allows for more then 4. ------- "Because the Dominix is the Chuck Norris of Eve!" |

Eve is 3 dimensional, you scan in using an equilateral pyramid. And seems likely in respose to the first poster that you are trying to scan something that might be unprobable with your skills.

When I'm scanning for sites I tend to use 5, the center plus four in the cardinal directions. It does occasionally cause problems; when that happens I just deactivate the middle one and scan again. For ships, I normally use 4.
Now, assuming you're not running into unprobable ship setups, you probably got bugged. There have been cases where ship/skill bonuses randomly stopped being applied. If that happens to a prober, your probes suddenly lose a massive amount of sensor strength. That's probably what happened to you. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

The other reason for training the skill higher, is that at Lvl V, you can deploy and use 8 probes. That allows you to scan 2 separate sigs at once. |
