Edited by: Zipp 0 on 20/08/2010 14:35:18 So I'm planning on heading out to 0.0 and killing me some rats. On my ship fit, in order to increase DPS, I fit heavy assault launchers. It looks like I have an 11-12km range. My question is, do rats tackle that orbit outside of this? If so, what is the farthest they orbit and tackle?
I can probably increase range a bit with implants (I won't do 5% ones. Too expensive), or a module if absolutely necessary.
Thanks for the advice/help in advance.

I'm not concerned about other players. I've found a nice, quiet system to rat in. If someone shows up, warp to safe and cloak. I'm not after PvP, just rats. I won't be caught.

According to the old database dump, it looks like the typical rat's max scramble range is 20km to 25km. There are some faction or named NPCs that can scramble out to 250km, but you shouldn't have to worry about those.

0.0 security rats tackle? I've never noticed that behavior before. I know some of the faction variants have such surprises, but not the regular run of the mill ones.

Interesting!
They definitely do. In my experience, it isn't extremely common though. I had to rescue a Zealot tackled by a rat who couldn't track it back in GW once.
I can handle the ones like that who orbit close, but if they're out of missile range, all I can do is slow-boat it until they give up the chase unless I can close range. I go ~500m/s. Typically enough to catch them unless webbed.

Rats have been able to warp scramble for a while now. A couple years IIRC.
