I know we are not supposed to mention other games on the forum but it has been posted on the BBC website that UK games company Realtime Worlds, creators of Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto and maker of the on-line game APB has gone into administration with the possible loss of 250 jobs.
The move it seems was due to 'lacklustre' demand for the new APB game and the removal of 'Tax Breaks' by the UK government.
Food for thought CCP?

CCP is on a hunger strike.
Sooo many voice crying for a fix and yet they just want to dish out new **** in the hopes that it will cover the bugs in someway...
CCP wont get to go into administration, which will give a chance of making a come-back, but straight closure where we all lose.
Can't say they haven't been warned

Lacklustre?? Dwindling subscriptions?? Decreasing income?? Higher expenses due to incompetent progrmming?? Higher account closure due to lack of bug fixes due to the aforementioned incompetence??
Seems you are the one that is intellectually challenged and yet you have the ability to formulate a query asking the same of the OP....how curious!

For a number of reasons;
There are over 200 people losing their jobs and CCP is recruiting in the UK.
CCP is I believe opening a new section in the UK so the tax break saga will apply to them.
The lack of take up of the new on-line game although possibly due to the game itself not being of a good enough standard to warrant a good take up, may also be due to a shift in peoples disposable income not allowing them to subscribe to another on-line game.
It may have repercussions on the eventual release of DUST in the coming years.
I donÆt know, itÆs up to the bean counters at CCP to digest and decide.

First heard of APB something like 5 years ago and was eagerly awaiting what was to be GTA:Online. And waiting, and waiting... Then after talking to people who tried it for a few months I decided not to even bother trying it myself after what the current players had to say about it. The sorts of things current players say about the state of Eve these last few major patches... There's definately some relevence.

When a company in the UK cannot pay its bills the company by law has to close, so they appoint administrators to oversee the closure of the company and recoup as much money as possible to pay the tax, creditors and staff.
If possible they will sell the company as a æGoing ConcernÆ to someone else to take over the company and keep it going.

11 in the US allows for restructuring ie lay-offc etc to get back into black , Administration is not, it's controlled closure by Administrators that close the entity down, cease it from trading etc (liqidation in other words)

MMO's can grown during these times. NCsoft was actually built during a recession for instance.
The problen now with MMO's is the market is saturated so quality is pretty key. APB was just a bit rubbish and was way to ambitious. I'm pretty sad though as several freinds of mine have lost their jobs at RTW after being made redundent last year at NCsoft.

Realtime Worlds did NOT make Lemmings or GTA.
One of the guys who owned it did. But the company in question was never involved in either.

Got nothing to do with the reversal on games tax. It just won't attract new investment.
Lionhead, media molecule, blitz, EA, Codemasters, Blackrock etc prove you can run a games developer/publisher in the UK and make money. They key is to make a decent game which people want to play and not spank millions on 250 employees and game that took 5 years to make.

ABP was quite frankly terrible.
They took the risk of releasing ABP in it's state, and paid the price.

never played it, but the concept looked solid enough
tbh tho it doesn't surprise me that this game didnt take off
it looks fairly expensive, ú35 to buy it, then it involved micro-transactions aswell (maybe not required, didnt look into it enough)
that was the reason i chose not to give it a go anyway

I was very interested in the APB beta. But when I got access to it I found out that there was set play times, only a few hours per week and it had a NDA. Never tried the beta with that rubbish.

The 'players' have been regularly predicting the death of eve due to x not working to their satisfaction on the forums since before it was even released back in the beta.

To be honest.. if you are relient on a 'tax break' to not make a loss, something is terribad wrong.
Yes, and the screenshots i saw it looked like Saints Row 1, and thats no good thing.

I played the Beta. Great game, when it worked (rare), mostly it would just crash, or the game would freeze every 5 seconds making driving impossible, on top of the driving lag which made it feel like you were driving on ice
made it sort of unplayable really. No way was that game ready for release

i love the game as a pickup and chill activity.
but it lacks the replayability and hold of other MMO's which is a welcome break but as a buisness model i cant ever see it working without it turning to F2P with micro transactions for shinys
i used around 40 hours of my game time, have 20 left and feel "finished"
i log on every now and then have a blast around the city arest some crims and log off
*shrug*
