I read somewhere ccp has said its now allowable to put cans out as long as it doesnt cause lag, to uncloak cloakies, so just a question what is the limit on jet cans around low sec gates to uncloak cloakies.

Since the amount of cans it takes to cause instability varies, I don't see how there is any way to state a specific figure.

Use common sense.
Putting cargo cans in line with obvious celestials is OK. Trying to surround a gate with cargo cans such that it is impossible to approach it from any angle is not OK. Trying to cover every single celestial object with every single possible warp in distance is also not OK.
My own opinion: less than 10 cans is perfectly OK. More than that and it becomes questionable and depends upon the situation.

I don't see how this is really an issue that CCP really needs to look into, if a well organized camp is preventing you from going down a certain route, don't use it, or wait till the campers get bored. You must be traveling through particularly hostile territory for such a thing to happen (giving campers enough time to jet enough cans to cause server stability issues) If that's the case, just don't go there.

i have petitioned this to find out and exsact number and got the responce that there isnt really an exsact number but using jetcans/securecans, in excess causes the potential target to lag is considered an exploit. so if petitioned you could get in crap maybe even a temp ban if you dont stop.

I was under the impression that the CCP imposed limit was on anchorable cans only and not jets. Does it apply to everything now?

Why try and jet can every possible warp in at every possible interval... when you can step up, get some interceptor friends, and fit sensor boosters?
If its 0.0 Bring HICs, if its lowsec, understand that frigates and assault ships are more than likely going to get away, target bigger ships, if you can't stop a battleship from uncloaking and warping, maybe you need to reconsider your tactics, do some skill training and try again? Most people willing to fly in lowsec expect gates to be camped, especially at Hi-sec to low-sec access points or low-sec to 0.0 access points.
The likelihood of stopping a Cruiser that warps to zero at a gate, without a few successful bumps is pretty slim to none. Someone dropping out of warp, activating a AB or MWD and spamming Jump is going to get away if they don't have a GCC or recent aggression timer. The biggest mistake I've seen in this instance is webbing someone that your trying to bump off the gate.
But with the lag in Low-Sec and 0.0 I doubt CCP will give you a hard number before its considered exploitative or griefing.
TL;DR Change your tactics and stop being lame.

this tactic is more for killing scouts than engauging in actual piracy. and this tactic is incredably handy for setting up a trap on w-hole exits.

It is also a good tactic to use when doing low/null sec missions/plexes and such. SCHALAC HAS SPOKEN |

I have heard this one many many times from folks dying in a bubble in 0.0. You are exploiting by putting cans out! Oh noes! Imma gonna petition you!
And then, i never hear anything about it. While I suspect that dropping 1000 cans might be petitionable and ccp might take umbrage to it I think you are pretty safe to drop a dozen or so around a bubble or gate to uncloak the bombers and what not coming through. If I am incorrect in this I am sure someone from the management can correct me here.
The issue seems to be creating lag not the idea that you might uncloak someone with your can. CCP once temporarily banned a former ceo of mine for dropping a couple of hundred ibises in jita to lag it out even further than it normally is. Obviously they care about the lag issues even if they havent solve all of them yet.

This one is simple. You are allowed to drop a can on the bubble for each celestial it "catches" from.
Eg if you put up a large bubble and its aligned with 3 gates you can drop a can on each "catch point", so three cans. If it aligns with 27 celestials then you're quite entitled to drop 27 cans (provided they are actually needed).
I have no idea what the "rules" are on low-sec. Seems more than a bit pointless really but I guess it catches the clueless.

I like Othran's. If you can defend your action with a very straight face I'd bet a bill that no GM is going to care. ----------------- Friends Forever |
