Hi all,
I am a fairly new player and i have recently joined a player corporation. As one of only 4 Gallente pilots in the corporation, i have been give the job of recruiting more Gallente pilots.
I would appreciate it if some of you could advise me on the most effective way to recruit players. I'm aware of the in-game chat channels but that just seems to be full of spam.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Recruiting worthwhile peeps can be hard, but pays off. My tip would be to make friends outside of corp, see if they're a good match, and invite em' in if they are.

To be honest it sounds like you need to find another corp. My reason for saying this is that it sounds odd that a CEO would assign players to recruit that are unfamiliar with the recruitment process. Also, they way you word, "gave me the job of recruiting more Gallente pilots," make it sound like the CEO is recruiting new players in all 4 empires, to do his recruitment work for them. This sounds lazy to me and it sounds like a path that would not lead towards a cohesive group.
If you feel that my feelings are misplaced then I highly recommend what the above poster pointed out. Start talking with other new pilots in and around your starter system. Start offering to help newer players. This will help two fold. It will help give you a sense of which pilots you may work well with and who you want to invite, but it will also start you on your path to becoming a FC. This can be very beneficial for your future in EVE.

It depends on what your corporation does, what can it offer the members you're trying to recruit?
In my own case, my corporation lives and works out of wormhole space, therefore the ideal place to look for new members is in wormhole related channels in game. As well as watching for players looking for a wormhole corp in the recruitment section of the forum.
Never underestimate personal contacts as well.

Thanks for the advice guys.
In response to Slade Trillgon, it's not really that our CEO i lazy, it's more to do with the structure of the corp. We are a fairly democratic corp and we rely on all members to make the corp work. We take on noobs as well as pros with a view of growing together.
To be honest, I'm not sure how long i will stay in the corp without more gallente but for now it is nice the have a regular social circle in the game to help guide me, and replace my ship on the odd occasion i get blown up.
Thanks again, I'll definitely take this advice on board.

I've been trying to recruit for a year. As far as I know, my only success has been a player that I was in a corp with before.
I wouldn't waste my time in the recruitment channel. I haven't had any luck with the Forum recruitment channel.
One thing I haven't tried, but am thinking about, is accosting random players and trying to chat them up. I think that I would at least be able to get an idea what country they are from. :)

Some of the best recruits I've ever brought into a corp I met by blowing them up first, take out their cruiser with only an industrial and they think "hey, maybe I can learn somthing from this guy".
Otherwise just find members in your area that are without a corp and invite them to mine or mission with you and see where it leads.

More likely they would thing "Dang, I really should stop going AFK for 10 hours at a time". -----

In my first corporation, the best recruiting I did was by accosting people in Local and inviting them to join a fleet to do something with me. In particular, I would hang out a level 1-2 mission hub and chat up people who were undocking in frigates and cruisers, and ask them if they wanted to join a mission fleet. Sometimes we'd get five or ten people in frigates just blitzing through level 2 missions. Then I'd invite them into my corporation's chat channel, mention in a not-too-pushy way that we were recruiting but they could still hang out and join fleets with us even if they didn't join. Some immediately asked if they could join, and some of them hung around for a couple weeks before eventually joining the corp.
