I have yet to see a single convoy with an escort ship and I have seen loads of convoys. In real life convoys tend to have escorts from a single frigate or patrol boat to an escort carrier and battlegroup. It would make sense if a trade route is often pirated that the owners of the route add escorts onto that route and the convoys get bigger but longer spawn times (as in the more the route is hit the fewer small convoys are flying along it). Coupled with "special" convoys that leave the system and warp like normal ships it could add more to the game and would mean that anyone trying to pirate a convoy finds a better and more interesting fight with possibly better loot.
I apologise if a thread like this exists but if it does it probably has been locked for inactivity as i haven't seen one.

I'm pretty sure if you shoot at those convoys, Concord shows up and kills you.
So why do they need escorts? |

I have killed many convoys... no CONCORD so far.

If you shoot a convoy which is outside a station owned by the corporation which that convoy belongs to, the turrets of that station will shoot you. Similarly, if you shoot a convoy you will get an aggro timer to its corp, and warping to another station which is owned by that convoy's owners before the 15min timer is up will also result in turrets shooting.
However, if you shoot a convoy which is owned by CONCORD, well... You can guess what happens.
Otherwise, you can shoot them without a concord/police response.

What is above but you can also **** off the faction navies in addition to concord. If you attack a convoy that leaves a republic fleet station, you can bet on a swift republic fleet response. Thankfully that response is really pathetic, it's like 2 cruisers and 2 frigates that don't scramble. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

I am talking about the convoys from NPC corps like Freedom Extenstion (or whatever its name is). And i have never hit a convoy from concord or one of the navy corps. Though I think for every five convoy ships one escort should spawn too as its a bigger convoy with more value and needs more protection I think as it would be a big loss for a corp to lose a fleet of ships carring high value goods.

What are those "high value goods" you're speaking of? Those convoys drop nothing worth the ammo/time spent popping them.

I'm talking about over 1mil of coolant. at todays prices and the size of each unit it is easy for me to get that much from a single convoy.

I tried NPC piracy a few years back... it was the most boring thing EVER. Even mining veldspar is more fun...
I mean... how hard is it... find a convoy, sit and watch them for 15 minutes while they warp align... warp to the destination station(s) to check for them, and catch them beyond the station guns... pew-pew for a bit (I did this in an Incursus it's that easy...) and look absolute rubbish... watch your standings to that corporation plummet.
Nah... boring and not worth the time/cost. Unless things have changed.

Hmmm... I used to do it a lot too. Every once in a while i got robotics or something... mostly I have piles of amarr bibles. That said, I did enjoy it when my char was 2 months old, and it gave me a taste for piracy. Now I find hunting for player indys much more satisfying. ------------------------------------
