Hi guys, im new to capital fleets, im now starting with my mates to move some capital in our ally. Im totally noob in capitals, i googled a bit but im not sure about the roles of these ships:
carrier = logistic (repping) super-carrier = logistic (big big repping) dreadnoughts = DPS on big targets titan = super logistic??
This means mainly capital ships are support ships (exept dread)? or they are used to do DPS too? Please explain me which roles have these class of ships... just to understand what they can do in the game... really ppl spend 70bill for a titan for have a super big support ship and fire some DD on 1 target?
thx. BP.

Capitals actually fill all roles, it's just situational. Carriers are by far the most versatile. They can be logistics for capital or subcapital fleets, dps (hotdrops), haulers, pve boats (lvl5, null sec anoms) and even a base of operations for a small corp. I've even used my carriers as tacklers a few times and no it wasn't fail at all. It was win, very very win.
Dreads are a one trick pony, lots of damage against stationary targets. They are good against other capitals and POS's. They can have very limited use against BS fleets but the enemy better be pretty stupid. This is due to tracking problems. In order to do any real damage, a dread must enter siege mode. Siege mode halves turret tracking and immobilizes you. As such you can't hit anything that's moving more than about 10m/s. So you can hit another dread in siege, or a webbed carrier but that's about it. I have killed BC's and BS's with mine but they were foolish and sat completely stationary. That said, alpha'ing a drake with pulse lasers is most satisfying, so never miss an opportunity to do so.
Super carriers are just carriers on steroids. They can do logistics, dps and pve. Unlike carriers however, they actually do a LOT of dps against large targets. But they can't dock, so you are trapped in it till it explodes unless you setup your own personal death star with a 1 man corp. They can use either fighters or fighter bombers but lack the drone bay space for a full set of both.
Titans are super sized dreads. They are pure dps machines able to do about 10k turret dps without sieging in addition to having the one shot wonder gun (DD). The DD in it's current form hits a single target for 2M damage. It ignores signature radius, speed and so on. It will insta-pop anything subcapital and will insta-pop any non-buffer capital as well. The DD is restricted to null sec however along with bubbles, bombs and a variety of other weapons.
There are also the industrial capitals, these being the freighter, jump freighter, orca and rorqual. The rorqual is the only one of them that is truly a capital however, the rest can use stargates and enter high sec. I assume you have no interest in these so I'll not discuss them further. But I figured they were worth a mention. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

I know this sounds nitpicky, but for the sake of accuracy, the new DDs actually do 2.2M to 3M damage depending on the skill of the user. (Doomsday Devices skill adds 10% to DD damage per level, and level I is required for usage.)

Heh, a lot of players are ignorant of that little fact. Among many others in the game.

Nyxes can carry full set of each +spare fighters/fightersbombers+normal drones with pretty much ease. think I run with 25 FB+20fighters+lots of t2 drones on mine.

Titans are for jump bridges. I think most new players and hi-sec people aren't quite familiar with this feature. It allows you to jump an entire fleet (of sub-cap ships i believe) far across space without having to use star gates. This is a fairly crucial role in 0.0. In my small time in 0.0, it was the key factor that allowed us to regularly engage in fights.

Titans= Mobile Jumpbridges ( can jump all ships), logistics, sometimes used in large cap fleets SuperCarriers= Logistics, DPS support, fairly common in large cap fleets, good for cap fights. Carriers= Logistics, DPS support. Used quite often as a support ship now a days. I have seen them used on nearly everything from movers to belt ratting to gate camping to campaigns. The most verstile of the caps and the cheapest. Dreads= Used to siege structures with alot of hp such as POSes and stations. Use to take out other caps. Not much use against anything else.
With all caps you need a support fleet. A solo cap is a dead cap( had to rescue ratting carries more than a few times in my eve career). Support should be a mix of BS/BC and light support( tackle/ t2 cruisers) If you cannot manage a decent size support fleet you should not use caps in battle. support size depends on what your doing with it and who you are fighting, numbers etc.
