Hi,
I ever considered passive tanked ships as a perfekt tool in neut heavy missions. Ships like the Nighthawk or the Rattlesnake. Passive tanks are nice as well for semi-afk work. But apart from that I think active tanks are superior because of more gank or utility. The slot waste of passive tanks is obviously quite high.
But this is all theory to me. I never did a lvl5 mission yet. Also I know only the lower and medium complexes. So could someone tell me how common neuts in lvl5 missions and more important in the harder complexes really are?
Maybe I don't have to bother with passive fittings that much?
Thanks. -

It depends on the faction you're fighting. Sansha and blood raiders are pretty heavy on neuts. Dread guristas never have them, but they jam. Pick you poison.
One advantage passive tanks tend to have over active tanks is a much larger buffer. Even though a raven may be able to have a 400 dps tank right off the bat, it only has about 9.5k shields. Now take a good drake and you're talking 18000 shields with (usually) much higher resistances. ...in bed. |

I don't mean to hijack the OP's thread with this question.
But, could an Archon remain cap stable in neut heavy missions?
I have never done a level 5 either and was also curious whether or not I should go with a passive tank. -

Mostly yes, but few missions have 7 neut towers III that WILL cap you out ... but you still have enough tank to kill neut towers before you die ... if you know what you're doing.

That basically. I think it's "The Fortress" that spawns 8x heavy neutralizer III's. It will cap out a capital unless you are very careful. My method to that one is to simply leave my reps turned off until I kill off most of the towers. If you drop below 20% cap it get's kinda tricky to get it back with even light neuting. Thankfully my archon has more than enough buffer to just take the punishment while I take out the neut towers.
It is a is a nerve racking mission at first though since there are 5-6 frigates that warp scramble you straight away. If you smartbomb them, you'll cap out and die to the towers. If you put warriors on them, you'll cap out and die to the towers. You just have to let them scramble you for a few minutes while you take the towers first. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

Yea Fortress is a scary one for that, I use 2 carriers 1 for tank and the other cap trans and armor transfer.
My other setup that works is rattlesnake (passive) and a logistic domi and a dps golem or nightmare that warps in after the aggro.
works a treat
