It would be awesome if you could sort Blues and what not out of the local channel. just a thought. -Wes-

inb4 people complaining about carebears using local to ruin gank attempts
Would be useful, but than again I don't quite agree with local functioning as it currently does. So... maybe too useful.

would be nice. Can get to the point you have your local the one side of the screen, chat window center screen covering up the ship and overview the entire other side of the screen. Least a sort of local on standings let me put non blues top of list and unless about to be ass kicked hotdrop...small local show me all of them top of list. Smaller local let me put the chat collection back underneath the local and can actually see some of these pretty graphics ccp spends lots of time improving lol.

local is not an intel tool. it is a chat channel. so be glad you got an user list with standing icons at all.

Edited by: Fournone on 19/07/2010 00:59:13 One question, why am i hiding in jita for WTs instead of thier unpopulated HQ? Becuase I can hide in plain sight (think assassins creed). Hiding in plain sight as very easy when 567 other pilots are clogging up local (and you just so happened to make the first letter of your name Z ). If I went to thier unpopulated HQ with just 5 enemy and 2 random people they would instantly see me and dock up to get thier gank ships before I can click the warp button.
Local is already too much of an intel channel. When im in low sec its my infalable pirate scanner (and reversed pirate's infalable carebear scanner). I'd rather have it removed instead of made more intel oriented.

Well setting it up as this is a boon to both pirates and carebears. and who cares what it was intended for everyone knows what it is used for. thats one of the wonderful things of eve. we use many things not as how the devs intended them and the devs actually like that. it would make sense if you can sort blues out of the local channels the same way you do your overview. and even if they where to change this you would still be able to gank carebears as most carebears dont even pay attention to local. heck ive done it myself when running anoms and space out for a bit and all of a sudden a neut shows up in my anom. so its still entirely possible even if they change it. -Wes-

According to CCP, Local has morphed into the largest intel source in the game - so basically you are wrong.
Other than that, it should stay the same until they wise up and make local delayed or like W-Space.
I had planned on using them to fix fleet lag but was talked out of it. -CCP Zulu |

Yes, it does not matter what the mechanic was intended for. Local can be used as an intel tool today.
But making it even more an intel tool, as sugested by the OP, is obvioisly NOT the way to go (as in making something bad even worse just "because it is alredy there").
Having no local and an improved scanner mechanic is, imho, a much better and more immersive way to go. Will be hard to balance and implement, but would be *amazing* to have.

This type of sorting should be added to local if and only if local is set to Recent Speakers mode (as it works in w-space). People who talk can be sorted all you want.. people who don't won't show up.

just because it gets abused as intel tool, doesnt mean we should make it even more powerful. I would love to have w-space local everywhere.

Would make intel-gathering easier than it already is, something I don't agree with. Knowing how to rapidly and efficiently scan Local is a skill every scout should develop, not get handed to them. |

This is the most carebear suggestion I've ever heard from a 0.0 alliance.
Sounds like the OP needs to move to Jita.
Local needs a nerf, not a buff.

Remove local, make the directional scanner automatically update every 5-10 seconds as an option.

Local may not have been designed to be an intel tool, but at this point it clearly is. -------------------------------------------------- Learning skills are an ultimatum, not a choice. |
