Edited by: Victorick on 09/07/2010 11:28:09 PvP, in most games, simply involves bashing your head on the keys assigned to skills and watching the mindless fireworks as the end of the world is represented in your living room, however as I have discovered, EvE is not like this, and PvP seems to be more a survival game, dashing in and out trying to get an easy kill before shooting off again.
So as a new player to PvP, using Amarr ships (have small Minmatar guns trained) I have the following questions.
-What is the best way to learn how to PvP well as a new player? -What systems are good to hang around in for PvP? -What are some good learning (Tech 1/Named) builds that I can use? -What are some handy tips you would give to a player trying to become good at PvP?

Hi. I can't think of any other game other than Runescape that would be just bashing keys. Every other game I can think of involves tactics and knowing what to do.
Anyway, I found out the best way to be to join a corp that will help you and train you, maybe someone can suggest some corporations. And I would start out with a tackler frig with a team, it's actually fun once you are there.

Maybe you will find this topic helpful. I saw this quick guide posted a couple of days ago and it seems to be just what you ask -- for a new player asking about PvP.

Hey im also new to the game and wanted to get in to pvp. got my first kill the other day :-) I found the best way is to get in to a training Corp that will take you through the basics and maybe help you isk wise for skills then get good in a frigate.
If you feel like being evil can flipping in high sec is a good way to learn so you can pick your fights even though alot of people will hate you.
also for fittings http://eve.battleclinic.com/ will give you a rough idea of fitting.
hope this is some help

Actually, I find Scrapheap Challenge better than Battleclinic.

1. What is the best way to learn how to PvP well as a new player? Lots of practice backed up by reading into the subject and surrounding yourself with other players interested in same (i.e. joining a pvp corporation). There is really no one best way that works for every new player. Some people hop into an assault frigate or interceptor and start roaming lowsec picking fights. Others get into pvp with their nullsec alliance roaming gangs. I started with can flipping miners in high sec - some didn't respond, others fought back and even devised some ingenious traps. I would recommend joining Red vs Blue for a few weeks. After you have flown in several gangs and scored some kills you can apply to one of the pvp corporations already having some killmail history to back you up. My alliance also offers pvp classes for nullsec type pvp every few weekends that you might want to check out. Nullsec pvp is good if you don't want to lose security status like it happens to pirates. Also there is factional warfare. As far as reading about pvp goes check out Warfare and Tactics forum once in a while.
What systems are good to hang around in for PvP? In lowsec I remember hanging around factional warfare centers and getting activity there. Seeing that you're Gallente you want to check system called Old Man Star and then go to Murethand and then towards Aeschee. Check out Obalyu , Parts and following couple of lowsec systems. Placid region has a lot of lowsec - check out Oulley to Vlillier stretch (this leads to 0.0 pipe) as well as Intaki/Brarel that part of Placid because it has lowest security status rating so spaws some pretty good rats there. It is hit and miss really. In Caldari lowsec used to get fights often around Enderlain pocket, have to bait people there a bit, as well as Mara area, and Aunenen sometimes swarms with pirates. Then of course there is the infamous Rancer area - that stretch is often creeping with pirates. Any lowsec that you see leading into a 0.0 pipe is likely to be not dead.
What are some good learning (Tech 1/Named) builds that I can use? Check out fittings on Battleclinic as well as sticky threads in Ships and Modules forum. EVE Live also has some setups. Start small and cheap - for Amarr Punisher is their best pvp frigate and check out Rifters as well since you already have small acs trained up.
What are some handy tips you would give to a player trying to become good at PvP? Read this guide about game mechanics of pvp: link
