well... im really really bad at MS paint but im very serious about this idea. In fact I think it would make dreads more useful and make taking down big alliance towers and towers in hisec easier.

Small ships? raping dmg?
Well it would be a smaller ship with lots of damage but by no means is it used like a bomber. Bombers are effective against Battleships, BCs, and cruisers but not in a pos siege. These ships would be able to hold out against lots of damage but only good at shooting at cap ships and a pos.
Undefended pos's/ihubs/sbus/tcu's even stations...sb's are fine to add some dps. Torp damage skilled up is decent . Jsut get all close and personal to offset torp travel time. flown right do much better dps than the bs pilots who either ran out of their good ammo or are at the wrong range for their optimal damage.
cruiser ships (well you changed to BC) would get popped in seconds. Support kills support and an fc unless really stupid would focus support on this (logis would be busy repping caps, wupport would get to them at some point...cuase logis are nice kills :) ). So would pos gunners. Factor in logis leave small ship to die (got caps and bs' to repair, just business and all good)...these would get wiped quick. Logi's keep the 2 bil+ isk ships alive...their losses hurt. Image wise, isk efficiency and the usual caod chest beating. Monetarily, lost cap is yet another corp/alliance expense they have to pay for fleet replacement program.
Current system fine...to pop stuff needs numbers and caps. Needs organization and time for the attacker so this not a 5 minute throw together a suicide roam kind of thing. For the defender, means there won't be pos gank roam squads out ref'ing pos' every day cause its so easy making for yet more pos repair ops (pos warfare a viscious cycle...like at least a few days off from it tbh).

With the bonus to hp granted from logistics ships they dont have to keep up the reps. Because its battlecruiser sized it can have maybe 80k-150k effective hp so if 1 logistic ship can rep it up very quickly it can alternate. Perhaps one logistics ship can keep up 6 of these ships. Also these wouldn't be able to gank pos's. They would cut the length of sieges in half though.

Basically here are the new cap ship roles if this is implemented Carriers: Run level 5's, Reps, Killing non cap ships, lesser role in pos sieges and anti cap warfare but still effective. Dreadnaughts: Killing capitals. You can bring it into a pos siege if you want as backup but money wise if you need to siege pos's 1 bil in mini dreads gets more dps than 1 bil in big dreads. They can hit battleships not going super fast for insane damage making up for there lack of pos powers. Titans: 1 shot kill everything same as before LAZORZ! Motherships: Still just a super carrier.

The idea has been mentioned before. Its basically taking be biggest weapon you got and wrapping a ship around it. (reminds me of the homeworld ion cannon frigate)
It would be a ship that goes for the biggest ships out there, but worthless on anything smaller than a capital(or webbed BS). It would be a cheap way of bringing capital guns to a fight.
The cruiser would be a bad platform for such a ship though. theres simply no room for 2 big turrets on the hull. (the magic invisible bellybutton missile launchers excluded) A Battlecruizer or battleship would probably be better. A cruizer also wont have enough of a tank to make it usefull. It will not be a hit and run ship like the stealthbomber. So it would need some decent defence.
Lack of siege mode is an issue, but you could compensate for that with bonusses. |

Edited by: Gallion on 25/06/2010 12:24:02 Hmm I think this Idea has alot of Merit but 2 Capital Sized guns and about 1or2 Extra Highslots. I think this would be a Class of Battlecruiser rather then jus cruiser..Perhaps Calling it a mini dread is Insufficient I think the term of T2-Corvette Using the other Variant of BC that has no T2 yet the case for the missile ship Drake Use capital missile launcher.
med and low slots would be the same as their T1 Predecessors. I can see something like this used in High sec Wars to help take down Opposed POS or Immobilized Battleships during Conflicts.

If you read all of my first post you would see that in fact it would have a siege mod and that it should be a cruiser. As for decent defense you should have read that I put down 140k effective hp and bonuses on the hp granted from logistics ships. It wouldnt be a T2 hull of a already out there ship. It would in fact be a entirely new hull specificly designed to hold 1 not 2 extra extra large turrets. The tracking speed on these guns would be so ass that they could only kinda hit a cap ship. It would move agonizinly slow and it meant to hit nearly completly stationary targets. Caps and webbed BS's and now be the job of dread's.

t2 drake wouldn't be a good fit at all for this new class of ship. In my opinion it would be horrible. Look at my little picture to get a idea of what im thinking. Also if these ships would be able to hit battleships it would make dreads useless. Absolutely useless. These ships are meant to only take over pos sieges in 0.0 and bring pos sieges to 0.7 and below hisec.
