fun title.. fun thread
Most of you guys don't remember but hot pink was the power tie color and/or power dress shirt color around 1984 - 1985... like people wore/wear blue dress shirts instead of white often.

Get your wife a pair of hot pink glasses so everything she sees is pink. Problem solved. If she wants to cosumize her ship; point towards the T3 ships. EVE does have entirely female based corps.
Let her fly Gallente ships that has lots of drone, maybe she can see the drones as her children and feel like a mom, that's pretty girly.
And IMHO, if it so important for her to fly pink spaceships, and to customize everything, and had purple hair, maybe EVE just isn't the game for her, for if those things are so important how can the rest of the game top that?

On a more serious note, the one thing that my wife (who is no longer playing not due to the lack of pink, but because she couldn't get over the detachment from your actual character) thought would help female gamers would be a male version of Aura, the AI that gives you all your notifications.

I'm a firm believer in "NO PINK SHIPS IN EVE" however, Incarna is the next big EVE expansion on deck I think (my personal favourite btw) and according to CCP, avitars are supposed to be very customizable so I would guess that anything is possible there. I'll bet my life on a insanely server crippling amount of new casual subscribers soon after the release of Incarna. CCP better be prepared.

Originally by: Cipher Jones Shes the kind of person with a 5:1 kill ratio in most games, I can see why you wouldn't want her in your system. If you got killed by a pink ship it might hurt your shallow adolescent ego.
I'm the shallow one, yet:
1) she wont play a game because it has no pink ships in it? 2) you think that some uncorroborated K:D ratio of 5:1 will impress people? 3) you think that the reason I wouldn't want her in the game is fear of her abilities (which hadn't even been mentioned in the original post)?
"Shallow adolescent ego" implies you know who I am, what I'm like, and how old I am. Frankly you don't - I might just aswell say "your wife is ugly", but it wouldn't be true, it would just be childish.
Anyway, the point I was trying to make (and which you apparently failed to grasp) is that there already exist many games which cater to your womans taste. EVE is a different game which evidently isn't to her liking, but it IS to the liking of the hundreds of thousands of subscribers that CCP already have.
It is obviously in the business interests of CCP to cater to existing customers, who have a proven track record of renewing subscription over a number of years, rather than blindly fishing for something shiney to impress the fickle. As nice as customised ship graphics would be, there are far more important things that need developer attention, than what would essentially be a piece of glorified chrome.
By the way dude, 5:1 is pretty mediocre in most games, and in EVE it is essentially irrelevant - you're impressing no-one with this.
tl,dr: Do one.

depends... in the game he is referencing in his OP, 5:1 in a single game would be good (not mediocre) but nothing special (unless you are playing a tank^^); a 5:1 ratio averaged over all your games would be pretty amazing (to the point of being unbelievable).
(and to clear up with some ideas about what games women love - that game is actually intended by its developers to develop a competitive eSports scene in the mid-term)
As to the point of KD ratio being irrelevant in EVE: sure, that's why EVE players add kills and assists into a single number on killboards, they clearly don't care about e-peen at all...

being able to build and use metallic dyes would be cool have a limited set of colors or shades
as wear and tear take place the colors fade back to bare metal colors of the original ship.
so you have to keep buying and "repainting" your ship the more you use it.
isk sink and solves the problem :)

It might be relevant to the individuals concerned, on some personal e-peen level, but its not exactly a measure of EVE success. Note Chribbas K:D on battleclinic (4:9) which would suggest he's a bit of a noob. Now I dare you to say he isn't one of the most successful players in the game.
In a game where it does matter, I wouldn't be impressed by anything less than 10:1, and even then I would think a pro with such a score must be having a bad day.

OP is sadly correct. Being able to choose colours (including pink) for our ships will bring in more women. All this hard work to get equality and their brains are still hardwired for the cosmetic :S

You directly stated what kind of person she is based on the desire for customizable ships. Dont QQ all over my thread when I do it to you.
I meant specifically GW & TFC. I was not trying to brag vicariously, apologies. You can understand the point if you are any kind of serious.
Quote: LOL
Come to think of it, customization would be an avenue for more tears and greater losses. Even with plenty of ISK to replace a ship, it still takes time going about gathering the parts and rigs.
by far the best reply in the thread. A way to turn it into tears. 10/10. I mean that.

Which car would win in a race; a candy apple 73 corvette with a 454 putting out 400 horsepower or a primer 73 corvette with a 454 putting out 400 horsepower? Looks like somewhere along the line guys got sucked up too.

Actually I didn't. I directly stated that I wouldn't want to see someone in this game if their deciding factor was pink ships. But no matter.

Considering EVE is a girl's name, it should be more female friendly.
Mods like PMS Smartbombs that nag you to death when activated would be a cool feature.
Along with Charisma, we need Blackmail Crying skill to weasel your way out of Concord tickets.
Let's not forget the take half your POS and blueprints divorce contracts as well along with the monthly alimony tax.
Yep...lot's of ways to make the game girl friendly. |

lol funny story, in Aion (lots of customization for character, armor, etc) I was in a legion that had a ton of women in it. It wouldn't hurt to allow a lot of customization except that it strains server hardware and takes quite a lot of coding to not strain the client/customers pc as well.
All the customization in Aion makes the rendering pretty difficult in large battles even though it only uses cryengine 1 version 2.0.
tl;dr I like your idea, and understand, but it is hard to implement.

I mean, something cool might be a rig to change the color? How about making each of the armor plates a different color, so mixing types of armor plates would give you different colors. Also do this with shield extenders/boosters?
I mean, SOME customization would be nice. [url=http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/combat_record.php?type=player&name=RatKnight1][/u |

Hey, they could modify shield boosters and hardeners so faction stuff has red effects, pink for complex, and purple for officer. Then your wife/gf will happily grind missions until she can afford a full X-type set because "it looks cool," and also let the rest of us know her Navy Raven is ripe for the ganking not to be messed with.

Originally by: Cipher Jones A while back I got a buddy account for my wife. She wasn't too into the 'spreadsheet' aspect of EvE of course, but I handled that by showing her what to train and buy. She got into a Dominix rather quickly with the skill point bonus and we ran some missions together.
In the meantime, we're looking at all the ships a Gallente pilot can fly, especially the navy Mega. The problem here is that the ships are not customizable in any way. I personally like the "camo" skins, but they just aren't that girly. There's no way to customize your ship in any way, shape, or form. Even in ghetto ass freelancer the admin could change the color of your ship lights.
I know better than to say a curse word on the forums, so lets just say she is now playing a game as a Gnome with pink hair. Point blank ~ If you could have a pink skin for your Nave Mega (or whatever ship) more women would play EvE online. Put in a Hot Topic for your avatar when you release Incarna and you will see an increase in female subscriptions. That sounds like a joke but it is not. Other games have entirely female based clans/guilds, I remember Half Life even had the first "Girl Power" server.
Anyway, just my opinion on a direction CCP should think about. Not at the top of the development list, but I bet you a plex pink ships would get more subs than the (imho)stupid bling keyboard support recently added.
So.. think about this for a moment.
What would you think, if you saw a Pink US Aircraft carrier? You think the sailors on that ship would want to be a pink ship?
How about a Pink AH-64 Apache? Or a Pink tank? How about a Pink Barrent 50 Cal Sniper rifle?
There's a reason why military weapons/craft tend to be in blacks, and greys, and golds, and silvers.
Pink isn't menacing. Though I'm sure people would run from a Pink Aeon.

well pink is the color of a particular object, and for some reason women seem to be fascinated with making "abstracts" that look like it all the time in my field. Ugh. talk about knowing how a gynecologist feels. the point is, pink seems to be all but their fate, unless u have girls that break out of the programming that sets in with their "self discovery". There's 1, repeat 1, frigate in the T1 lineup designed to be a suicide tackler. the rest are for COMBAT. so don't tell me to tackle when I'm in a combat T1 frig. OR tell CCP to fix their mess. |
