OK, so planets look awesome. Great job CCP.
So....why then did CCP decide to "update" the suns with polygonal models instead of using the sphere primitive used on planets?
And "solar flares" looks nothing like what you have going on now.
Was it a matter of resource use? Do the new suns use less resources than the old ones?
Anyone @CPP know?

Seven pages of player comments, but it doesn't answer my question.
Why was it done?

The old suns were too expensive to maintain.

That seems to be the default reason for every nerf CCP does these days.

It would be my guess that it has to do with local client performance. Rendering a almost perfect sphere does take a lot more cycles than a somewhat 'limited' polygonal model (although the almost perfect sphere is polygons too, only with a lot more polygons). For me this was extremely noticable when warping to or even inside a star, my GPU started to sweat considerably (-> fan started to spin like crazy), also reduced FPS. Now not anymore so.

AFAIK the perfect spheres (planets) are not polygon based at all but are parametric models. That is to say an algorithm builds it. No polygons to render. But if your GFC is handling it a lot better, then perhaps there is the answer itself.

In that case, it clear that there isn't enough money to go around, so we should tell them that CCP management is too expensive to maintain, and nerf them and give us back all our goodies they took from us. There's 1, repeat 1, frigate in the T1 lineup designed to be a suicide tackler. the rest are for COMBAT. so don't tell me to tackle when I'm in a combat T1 frig. OR tell CCP to fix their mess. |

Well Stupid, since you feel that way I may just resub for the next 5 years. What more, I'll apply for a job at CCP.

Except for the fact that ccp employees can't reveal who their in game non dev characters are so they would not let you have the name.
