EVE has been dying for 7 years - according to the silly folks who keep posting such again and again and again.
When I see regular threads proclaiming EVE is indestrucitble and will go on forever - then I start worrying. --- Save the forum: Think before you post. ISK BUYER = LOSER EVE TV- Bring it back! Laptop, NVidia7900GS, Ubuntu 8.04, WINE |

The wikipedia eve online pages says eve has more then 5000 star systems and 2500 wormhole systems. 1000 players in each of the star systems would require 5.000.000 players online at the same time, which would by fare make it the biggest mmo of all time.
no, world of warcraft has over 12 million players, so rethink and educate yourself
It is indeed bigger but the gameplay leaves much to be desired

I never quite understood why people think an MMO is dead, just because it doesn't have as many subscribers as WoW? That's like saying everyone in town is poor because they don't have as much money as the rich guy up on the hill? It just doesn't make any sense.
Last I heard Eve is the second most successful subscription MMO in the universe (as far as we know), how does that make it dead?
Probobly just a troll post anyway.

Maybe the people saying it's dying were right, back in 2003. Maybe it has died. Maybe it's an unkillable zombie.

True.
I think EVE has like 50,000 unique players that all have 2 or more accounts. It's actually a very small niche game, and I don't really see it grow a lot. It's not really newbie friendly, training is incredibly slow and fixed rated, it's overwhelmed by mining bots.
Unless you have time to invest years of dedication and money to afford multiple accounts, I think it's not really an attractive game for most people.
If there will finally be a worthy opponent in the sci-fi mmorpg genre IŠm afraid EVE will lose a lot of customers. Fortunately there isnŠt any.

EVE isn't dieing but some aspects of the game seem like they are in trouble, lag in fleet fights looks like its getting worse many players are complaining and there are some weird bugs cropping up like ships that are recorded as dead and they are dead to the pilots but the ships are randomly appearing floating in space. I have witnessed some really awful lag recently myself and the number of pilots involved in those fights where small compared to fights I participated in 2 years ago yet the game was literally unplayable.
Many null sec players still hate the sov mechanics and don't think they are an improvement over the old mechanics. So while EVE is far from dieing the so called "end game" is a mess right now, CCP are trying to fix it and they keep appealing for help with mass tests so lets hope they can make some inroads with the lag.

World of warcraft has 12 million accounts total. 5 million people never logged onto WoW at once.

Only way Eve is anywhere close to dying is that it is slowly lagging to death, other then that it is all fine. (oh plus its a zombie....... just a lagging zombie)

Yes, I know I'm quoting an older post.
But for Christs sake, you are a moron. Learn about how the game works before you make statements like that.
And before you try the "Lolol you fell for my epic trollz0rs", you are obviously too stupid to be a troll, so don't go there.

You realize that you're saying that each real person has 6 or 7 totally separate accounts, right? That every real player is paying upwards of $90 per month to support their Eve habit? There are well over 300K paying accounts in the game. Think about that for a second.
I always get a kick out of people saying that the game is 80% (or whatever equally ridiculous and pulled out of their ass number) alt accounts. Just b/c you know a couple guys with 2 accounts out of your corp of 50 people, doesn't mean everyone has one.
In my circle of in-game comrades, there are perhaps 3 or 4 people with separate alt accounts (ie on a different account from their main character) - that's out of 20 plus players.
In short - there aren't nearly as many alt accounts as many people think there is. ---------------------------------------------- I don't have an alt, but there's a main that would be upset if he heard me say that... |

This! Alt's are there but they aren't as poliforate as people think. I had 2 alts for a while but as I only have one screen and cba to copy my eve folder so didn't last long :P

Online at the same time? rething and reeductate yourself! However, you might want to consider a few things, first of all; I now have one of those annoying sigs. second; you should probably move on to some more interesting things than reading this sig.

Number of accounts is not valid measurement. Every time new major feature is introduced number od alt increase. Salvaging alts. Wormhole alts. Now there will be PI alts. And logged players count will reach new records.

Edited by: Vadimik on 20/06/2010 11:56:55 Let me reveal the dreaded truth.
Take a look at any other MMO life cycle today: it is released, quickly gets whatever user count it was destined to (say, 250 000), then slowly leaks subscribers. That's a normal MMO life cycle these days.
Now, take a look at EVE. It was released, got pretty few users at first, and then began to (slowly) build up subscription numbers. Since this is an opposite of normal MMO life cycle, we can only assume EVE is actually dying as subscription numbers grow.
Oh, and let's also take a look at WOW. Now, that one is not only building up subscriptions on main servers (and fast), but is also being localised. Thus we can assume WOW is no just dying (much faster than EVE), but is, in fact, an undead plague that is spreading. The latter observation is also supported by the fact that some other game developers (yes, SOE, I'm looking at you) have scrapped their already-good-and-running MMO's to turn them into WOW-clones. (Lucky, most such abominations hardly survived the initial change.)

Just get used to it. EVE online is always dying, even when its playerbase grows.
