Are there going to be any planets left over, or are we stuck planting our flags on dustbowls. ;)

Because you apparently never bothered to look for info, you deserve to have dustbowls left, yes.
(And that info, available for months already, says that it does not matter when you decide to play with planets. Today, tomorrow or in a month).

OP, your post is a very unfullfilling meal, please add some cheese to your whining. I would recommend some nice old Amsterdammer.
with 66000 planets in New Eden, and multiple CCs being supported by them, I doubt it will fill up anytime soon. however, you're free to go visit the empty dustbowls.
PS: Can I have your stuff?

To be fair I think the OP was posting tongue in cheek. Although I have to say that it is nice to play an MMO where the updates aren't geared solely to the benefit of the USA. -----

Yes, I was being tongue in cheek.
If i was Australian I'd have more important things to worry about than eve planet mining.

Edited by: Joel McBeth on 08/06/2010 17:58:52 People keep saying there is going to be no land rush. If people are already on the good planets on the best hot spots it makes no sense to build on the planet as it will just become depleted.
So yes, there is an advantage to being on a planet first.
The test server has a population of about 200-300 people at a time. You would think finding a planet that already has people on it would be rare, but I've found several. Just think how that will be with the magnitudes more people on Tranquility.

I logged on at 6am PST one hour after the servers came up this morning, and was able to have my pick of sites. I saw plenty of people around. Gates were flashing like mad, because its around 7 jumps to get to a place which sells command centres. 7 jumps from what seems like everywhere... Anyways, when i did place two colonies, i had no problem finding space even with like 5 or 6 ships in orbit (on a plasma planet in highsec). Planets are really big! and there are quite a few hotspots. The planet i was dealing with had id say 10-20 hotspots (white), with some overlapping others.
What i am more worried about is that people can probably (and are probably) placing extractors all up in my hotspot right now, just to grab space. I dont think theres anything like a Sphere of Influence, from other RTS, which says you cant build a few tiles around someone elses structure.
So in conclusion, lots of planets, planets are big = you will get something, even later today. maybe not your first pick of location, (if you were doing scouting earlier), but you will get something for SURE. Probably even on the planet that you want / scouted.

Once again, there are no limits to the number of people who can populate a planet. There are no limits to how many extractors people can put on the exact same spot on a planet. It doesn't matter if you get on in two minutes or two weeks, you'll have your pick of spots.
Believe me, no one is going to say "Oops! Someone already has that spot!" They're going to plop their extractors right on top of you, regardless of how it affects the extraction rates.
In fact, I would suggest that it is probably smarter to wait a few days before investing in a large colony infrastructure...

12h after TQ and almost nobody deployed on the planets.
I live in Gallente highsec space.
at this rate of "planet rush" I'll have plenty of good spots left when I return from holidays in two weeks.

I threw one command center out at 7 AM PDT. There was no one else around. I had 3 command centers out before I saw another player planet side around non PDT. It is going very slowly. I don't think there will be any problem for us PDT players.
On a personal note, I love playing PDT. It's so far behind Europe that all the jerks have logged off and gone to bed when I get in my hulk. (only kidding but I couldn't resist, there are jerks everywhere )
Have fun!

The system I am currently playing in is pretty slow, but I have seen other players extractors on the planets.
The interesting thing is some of those extractors aren't very near to what I show to be the best spots. I have both Planetology and Advanced Planetology at L4, so I can reasonably assume I am closer to the mark then someone that didn't take the time to train both. (I think it is unlikely they have higher skills at this point, since they would have had to make some significant sacrifices on the other skills to pull it off.)
So, the logical conclusion is that the lower skills have a greater error factor and what they think are the hot spots, aren't. Thus, there are plenty of spots available.
