Introducing a new PI tool:
PI Planet & Product Matrix - Tier-based representation of the PI products and building blocks. - Drill down to the individual planets required. - Selections for up to 6 planet types with resulting matrix of available materials. - Stoplight color coding for simple interpretation. Legends provided. - Simple Excel 2007 workbook; no macros, only self-contained table lookups and conditional formats.
File can be downloaded at Eve-Files: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1005/PI_Planet__Product_Matrix_v10.zip
Seeking feedback on any errors or simple upgrade ideas. Positive and negative critiques welcome.
Similar to many other tools out there, but with an enhanced, easy to interpret presentation for deciding which combination of planets will best meet a character's PI plan.

This is exactly something I was looking for - where you can select the planets you have and it shows you what you can make. Well done.

Edited by: Louis deGuerre on 29/05/2010 18:29:57 Looks nice. It does not work in OpenOffice 3.1.1, had to upgrade to 3.2.0 to make it work.
Nice work !
EDIT : Delay that, still doesn't work in OpenOffice. Sol: A microwarp drive? In a battleship? Are you insane? They arenFt built for this! Clear Skies - The Movie

Also having problems viewing this in Openoffice. Tried the Microsoft Excel Viewer, but didn't allow me to play with the dropdown menus.
Converting using Openoffice and other options to xls didn't work for me either :( |

Very nice, thanks for the hard work.
For those of you that have a version of Office that is earlier than 2007, check out this KB article from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924074
The article will give you a link to the updates needed for your version of Office.
For those without office, you can get the xlsx viewer from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1cd6acf9-ce06-4e1c-8dcf-f33f669dbc3a&displaylang=en
Hope that helps :-) |

In order to avoid VBA macros, I've used Excel 2007 table header references that don't exist in Excel 2003. So a 2003 version would require significant rework and I doubt I'll get to it. Sorry. The Excel 2007 viewer from MS is a good option.

I'm not sure I understand the point of expanding beyond 6 planets. With full skills, 6 planets is the maximum "commandable" and with 6 planets you can already reach full access to all components anyway. If you just want to see the product tiers without color codes, just leave the selection fields blank (red tiers) or filled with an optimum 6 planets (green tiers).

I have tried the xlsx viewer, and it does not allow me to change the planets I have access to. The dropdown menu arror is there, but unclickable.
It's a shame, the spreadsheet looks real useful. Does anyone have any other workarounds?
Also, regarding 6 or more planets, many people are using alts to have several planets worth of production (like I intend to use one of each planet for extraction, and two planets for the factories). While I understand it's impossible to create an arbitary number of planets, 12 would probably be the most reasonable for most players.
Tis an awesome sheet though. Exactly what I was looking for.

Sorry to hear about the 2007 viewer not working. I didn't realize there was that big of a playerbase still using Excel 2003. I'll see if I can't rebuild this thing from the ground up again with Excel 2003 compatibility (ugh).
As a workaround, for those with the 2007 viewer that can't use the planet pulldowns, can you try manually typing in the planet name in the cell. Make sure you match the name shown on the bottom table of planet resources. If that works could you please post your successful method.
Finally, can someone confirm the player that runs EVE-FILES? Is it Chribba? It's simply the best support idea for users that I've ever seen, and one that gaming companies should be ashamed to have to leave to users to create.

I've rebuilt the tool using an Excel 2003 native format. During my Excel 2007 save, I show no incompatibilities, but I could use a confirmation from someone who actually has Excel 2003. No idea if the 2003 version will work on OpenOffice, it still uses table lookups and referencing.
New download link on original post. Feedback welcome.

Confirming that it works on Excel 2003. This is an excellent work and will be useful for me to determine how to utilize planets within my chosen system.
Thanks

The first version did not work with Excel 2008 for Mac. The v101 I confirmed does work with Mac Excel 2008. Thanks for the update.

Good to hear that the current version works on all systems now.
For the future, I'll take a look at adding broad extraction and processing assignments with units/volumes.
And many thanks to those who donated ISK. Not expected, but very much appreciated.

Would it be possible to create a Corp Version of this file with different tabs/sheets for different Characters? (maybe a sheet that is a template that we can copy multiple times?)
