So, let me see if I understand this correctly...
Agents have sent players to low-sec from high-sec systems for missions since, well, 5+ years ago.
Tyrannis has launched, making agents send players from high-sec systems to low-sec for missions.
Oh, right, I see where things got turned around for the worse...
Seriously, it used to be that if you wanted to mission in a fringe-system you should get sent to low-sec quite often, it's entirely normal. Back in 2005/2006 most of my missions down in Danera would send me all the way into Tegheon (that's three jumps - Danera -> Rilera -> Edani -> Tegheon) just to go do a lvl3 mission.
Stop crying about it and move yourself a few systems away from the nearest low-sec if it's that much of an issue to you. ---

Well, yeah, I know that, but not everyone (me included) is great w/the Directional - my point was (and is) that it takes far less time to scan down a missioner than it does to do the mission. If it takes 12 mins to blitz a mission, and you can be scanned down in less than 4 to 40 times that speed... That was what I was getting at...
Yeah, missioning in low-sec won't ever be a "high-population" activity. Some few might be good at it, and some excel, but its just not going to catch on with the masses... Please re-size your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes. Zymurgist |

It's the proportion that changed. Before, when you're in highsec with one lowsec neighbor and 8 highsec neighbors, that's only 10% chance of getting sent to lowsec. Now, it's nearly 100%, since lowsec is usually empty, so it gets all the missions until the system is filled, which is never.
It used to be simple math. Now, it's skewed out of proportion. Let's face it, there will always be a hundred ppl sitting afk in highsec, and lowsec will always be empty, so agents anywhere near lowsec, even if there's only one lowsec system, will always send you to that empty system.
It used to be that when mission runners get lowsec mission out of the old proportional system, and can't turn it down, they would sometimes risk going in, and lowsec actually gets visitors. Now, lowsec is completely depopulated, as no one will bother run missions there nearly 100% of the time from a crappy neighboring highsec agent for all of the risks and none of the benefits. Deep highsec hubs just got more crowded, and lowsec emptier. It sucks to be lowsec pirate those days, haven't gotten a single decent target.

Deal with it just like the rest of us do.

Edited by: Wet Ferret on 28/05/2010 15:25:16 Stupid change didn't affect me but is still stupid.
This just forces people to move deeper into highsec. "Nobody is forcing you to stay". Newp, they're just forcing you to move! lol
Strangely enough this only affects people who weren't "doing it wrong" by missioning in crowded hubs. Well have fun in your crowded hubs, dear missioners who used to risk getting useless low-sec missions in the past and needing to wait to get one that was actually doable. Now you get zero missions that are doable at all! Yay. Fail CCP and lots of fail players who think this change is somehow good at all for anyone
But for the record, I only changed my sig because I was annoying myself with the last one.

I'd be curious to see real charts of recorded missions delegated from system sec to system sec (CCP ones, not player ones; player ones can easily be falsified to try and prove a point).
For example, a pie-chart shaped system distribution as you mentioned with the central point being your 0.5, a single low-sec system and then 7x empire systems; showing the percentage of missions that the agent tried to give that would have lead to low-sec vs those that would have led to the empire systems.
My argument still stands, however. If the system is on the constellation and is low-sec, fine, have the agent send you there 9/10 times to go pick up his cigs his 'friend' stole from him. If it's out of constellation, the chances should be significantly reduced. ---

Every race has a good quality(q15+) level 4 agent stashed away deep in high sec in some otherwise useless corp. It just takes some digging and standings to get and use them is all.

I have an Alt that while running missions for its lvl 4 agent yesterday got sent to low sec 3x in a row. Under the old system, the chances of that happening were about 1 in 10.
I don't mind low sec if I am in something cloaky, but I will not chance my mission ship there. Each time I jumped into the low sec area, the gate was camped.
My solution to the problem is to move to a high sec area and cause crowding.

Just pick an agent in a system with as many low sec systems nearby as possible.
If your agent is more likely to give you missions in systems with less people in it, you are likely to get missions in systems which are less camped than others, which, given the average population of low sec systems means: not camped at all.
Low sec / 0.0 mission runners rejoice!

If everyone goes further ashore to a different hub... then the mission-givers will spread them out throughout the constellation... they won't just crowd into one system. It's not just near-lo-sec agents that are changed.

Seems like a nice "risk/reward" balence to me.
STOP moaning because you cant farm missions in near complete saftey and expect to be in a low populated area.
Single player games are that way >
So to which low sec border system do you go exactly in a marauder?

This is actually CCP wanting more subscription monies, so they are making having only one account less and less viable.

A patch that encourages people to group in order to mission is great. People group to progress in many other MMOs; removing single player isk farming is a good idea.
As a nerd I feel for the single players, but they have other options.
Paired with the market changes - I think the game takes a big step forward.
Might be tougher in the short term, but better in the long term.

It's so stupid that when CCP nerfs a way to make isk someone whines about it.
Right now lvl4 and 5 missions give a lot of money. And it's too much money for the little effort and risks involved in that activity.
This just makes highsec more challenging, and that's only a good thing.

The *ONLY* effect this will have is increasing lag in Motsu and making permatanks more valuable.
And in summary, bigger blobs are the answer. Now what was the question? |
